I might be coming into this discussion way too late and at the risk of the mods nuking me, one possible benefit for a 3-engine 6th Gen might be that China, whilst they have come a long way, still does somewhat lag when it comes to leading edge engine development. The PLAAF might not be confident in the industry to deliver a variable cycle engine in the timeframe that they want to start inducting 6th gens to the tactics development squadrons. Having 2 'performance' engines and one 'efficient' engine might be a way to get the jet to both fly very well with incredibly high efficiency over longer ranges (up to crossing most of the Pacific and back) whilst also mounting traditional high-performance jet engines to fight and maneuver well when it becomes necessary.

It should be noted that before the target engine is put into service, no matter what alternative engine is used for flight, it is not related to whether the aircraft is a three engine design. The aircraft is designed according to the target engine from start to finish, and neither WS-10 nor WS-15 is the target engine, so there is no need to think so complicated.

i also believe that now makes Yankee, Orca, Otter and Shenhua as all agreeing that first flight at CAC is imminent.

I think this is the only thing out of all these fuss where pretty much all of us here can agree upon at this point in time.

And there's one more thing:
Aaaand with that the posts were vaporised. Original and quotes.

Hmmm. I wonder.

I'm still inclined to think that whatever trijet JH this is is separate from a 6th Gen successor of the J-20.

Typically a post on Weibo becomes unavailable as follows:
Namely, the original post got taken down/removed, but anyone else who quote-posted the original post remain available, with the original post content captioned "Sorry, you don't have the necessary privilege (权限) to view the post".

This time, however - It's not just the original post on Weibo that got taken-down/removed, but all of the quote-posts by everyone else that quote-posted the original post which vanished as well.

Something that's interesting and worth looking out for sure, but only up till that. We should wait and observe.
