Mostly on their own, but of course, we've seen them follow PLAN SAG elements occasionally. It's the same as the US sending RC-135s or SURTASS ships close to Chinese waters. They won't get shot at so there's no need to escort them.

Apart from the lacking need for protection there's also the matter that as SIGINT hulls it can be counterproductive sending escorts that muddy the electromagnetic environment. These ships are designed to measure and pick up on emissions from their targets, any interference in this regard is a problem.
A rare sight to behold, albeit possibly dated.

Apparently Huludao is also involved in the construction of the SSKN, apart from Jiangnan.
Either that, or that both Huludao and Jiangnan are building something else, possibly submarine-related.

My best guess is this was at the rehearsal for the Chinese Navy 70th anniversary parade back in 2019.

The surgeon was about 12,500km away from the patient, practically on the other side of the Earth.A telesurgery performed onboard PLAN medical ship Peace Ark has broken the world distance record. As part of the Harmony Mission 2024, Peace Ark is currently deployed to Benin. A surgery was performed using a surgery robot remotely controlled by a surgeon back in Shanghai.
