That was way too close...hopefully Pan does better in the semifinals. I hope he isn't sick or something like that. He broke the Olympic record just a few days ago.

What is Pan Zhanle doing? I almost thought he was eliminated.
I know they are trying to sabotage the guys but so far there are already two silver and two bronze. Plus he already swam well in the relay.

Also fun fact. Before the late 19th century there were no actresses in traditional Chinese Opera so all the female roles were played by men. So China has them beat by a thousand years.
The same story as Pan is for Haiyang, almost out of semi finals. Western tricks with doping are taking a toll. Two of the top swimmers underperforming is not a conicidence.

There are many types of traditional Chinese Opera. Some varieties such as Jing Ju (京剧，Beijing Opera) traditionally had all male casts while other Chinese regional operas such as Jin Ju (晋剧，Shanxi Opera) had all female casts (all male roles were played by women). Yue Ju (粤剧，Cantonese Opera) had either all male or all female casts but not mixed gender casts. The other Yue Ju (越剧，Zhejiang Opera) used to have all male casts then switched to having all female casts at some point. Of course, there are also plenty of traditional Chinese regional operas that use mixed gender casts.
