I'm happy with the results. Two gold medals would've been better, but Xu and Tang should be proud of their silver medals. I think China has a decent chance at getting the gold medal in the men's 100 m freestyle (Pan Zhanle), the men's 200 m IM (Wang Shun), and the women's 200 m butterfly (Zhang Yufei). Fingers crossed!

Getting gold in 200 IM will be tough because that new French kid Marchand is the favourite.

China is a strong contender in five of the remaining events: men's 100 m freestyle (Pan Zhanle), men's 200 m breaststroke (Qin Haiyang), men's 200 m IM (Wang Shun), women's 200 m butterfly (Zhang Yufei), and the 4x100 m mixed medley. 4-5 gold medals is not out of the question.

Qin Haiyang had one bad race, but I still have faith in him.

Qin Haiyang (breaststroke) and Zhang Yufei (butterfly) were my hopes for gold in both 100 and 200 considering their golds in the swimming championships.
I would be satisfied with just 3 golds since that was what China got last time in 2020. Any more than that is a bonus.

I would say the current Chinese swim team is better than it was in the Tokyo Olympics. So many contenders in many events including relays. In the 2023 swimming championships China won 5 golds and earlier this year won 7 golds (many top swimmers rested due to Olympics). I would be happy with 3-5 golds for China and hope other swimmers can deny Americans golds.

Also the mens 4x100 medley and womens 4x100 medleys. They have enough swimmers who are among the best of their own 100m events.

For the 2008 Beijing Olympics, there was also a big fuss in Western media about the girl singing ceremonially on the podium during the procession of the flag lip-syncing to a different girl singing behind the scenes. Western media accused China of fakery and coverup despite the two 7-year old girls (neither of whom were celebrities or professionals) both being credited in the official program and Western media only found out about the lip-syncing after one of the opening ceremony producers went on a Chinese television interview and talked about the lip-syncing as an example of unexpected difficulties (young girl picked early on for her stage presence/composure and been practicing for the ceremony turned out to be a poor singer but they didn't realize that until the final rehearsals).

After the endless denigration of so-called Chinese fakery and coverup for the ceremonial lip-syncing by a 7-year old Chinese girl, it came to light that in the 2000 Sydney Olympics opening ceremonies, the Sydney Symphony - the professional orchestra of the city famed for its opera house - was actually miming to recordings of the Melbourne Symphony, and members of both orchestras had signed confidentiality agreements in order to keep the deception secret.

Your not going to risk global embarrassment, because of the off chance the participants of the opening ceremony have a bad day etc.
Shit needs to close to perfect, or else the world will clown on you like they are doing with the Paris olympics.

(This was Emma McKeon's sixth Gold medal across three Olympic Games, making her Australia's most awarded Olympian. She has already announced that these will be her final Olympics. After finishing 6th in the 100m butterfly, she has one more opportunity to medal in the 4x100 medley relay.)
