That is a big miss. Team and individual are the two most coveted golds in gymnastics. Frustrating loss with a decent lead.
yeah team and individual all around are probably regarded as two biggest in gymnastics for different reasons. Team competition is to prove which country has the best overall strength in depth and all around competition determines who is the best gymnast.
yesterday‘s event is heartbreaking not only cuz grabbing that gold pretty much done and dusted, even cctv commentator was busting out the champagne near the end. But also afew of senior members like Xiao Ruoteng, Liu Yang and Zhou Jingyuan missed out on team gold in Tokyo, this was their best chance i reckon, next Olympics they are going to be too old. Anyway, that’s over, sun rises, hopefully these guys can concentrate on their remaining individual competition.
Poor guy, hope he doesn't get roasted by netizens too harshly. It's tough to see them falling behind during the last event, but a tough battle for gold with Japan was always to be expected, it's not like the result was a completely unexpected upset. China and Japan are basically evenly matched in men's gymnastics and have been for the past two decades.
yeah he got a lot of flak on Weibo yesterday, but netizens ire are turning to the coaching staff now. the result was not completely unexpected before the event started as Japan has a good team, although China retained an edge. China have two really good all rounders in Zhang Boheng and Xiao Ruoteng. Japan only has one. The other guy who is arguably best ever retired after Tokyo. And China two all time greats in parallel bars Zuo and in rings, Liu. People were expecting a close battle but the way it ended was probably not expected. Three points in the lead is massive in gymnastics going to last rotation. It would take a monumental cock up to lose that lead. Unfortunately it happened for China, feel bad for that back up guy. He obviously didn’t want to screwup so bad but nerves got the hold of him.

China's 6th gold medal. Also congratz to our allies and good neighbors North Korea for making it this far.

sweet. The journey was much tougher than expected. People thought the world No 1 pair would just sweep into the finals easily and win by huge margin. Goes to show in olympics nothing is given. The historical dominance of China in table tennis and diving is incredible.
interesting fact about the North Korean team. They are not well known in the international circuit. They have dubbed team of mystery Lol. Which was proven true when they dump the world No.2 Japanese pair and went all the way to the final

China lucked out in this one. Japan gave them problems last Olympics so good thing they didn't have to deal with Japan this time.

Qi of China wins silver in trap (shooting). I think it’s first time China or any Asian medaled in the Olympics men event. My bad, japan got silver in 92.

The Brit who got gold was crazy ! He only missed like twice after 50 shots. I mean he is the world record holder but I wonder if you can take like beta blockers or something to slow your heart rate down and perform to the max.

Why can't Americans shoot properly? Don't they love guns?

Fencing-Pineapple pizza insults fly over Italian-Hong Kong fencing final

HONG KONG, July 30 (Reuters) - Hong Kong's Cheung Ka-long's win in the men's foil against Italy's Filippo Macchi 15-14 in a disputed bout has seen a barrage of insults from both sides with the Italians launching a formal complaint against the result.
Italian netizens flooded Cheung's Instagram profile, posting that Italy had been "robbed" and that the result had been "stolen".
Hong Kong users responded with posts on "loving pineapple pizza" and "pasta with soy sauce" to mock Italian cooking. Many netizens uploaded pictures of themselves eating pizza to express solidarity with Cheung.
A Hong Kong Pizza Hut advert on Facebook that was trending online showed pizza covered in pineapples alongside a fencer skewering a pineapple. It said customers could add pineapple toppings for free when dining at the restaurant.
Macchi's coach Stefano Cerioni told Italian media that Macchi was the "moral winner". Giovanni Malago, president of Italy's national Olympic Committee (CONI) said they had made a formal protest. The dispute focused on the final point which required three replays before Cheung won.
Another complaint focused on the origins of the referees, South Korean and Taiwan which they said were geographically near Hong Kong.
An IOC spokesman said the Italian appeal was a case for the federation. "Judging for fencing I have not heard any complaints but there is a procedure," they said.
Macchi posted on Instagram his disappointment with comments such as "they robbed you", "outrageous arbitration".

Free pineapples on Pizza for two days at Pizza Hut in HK :p
