Everything international is dying, and that process should be accelerated and concluded soon. It might be restored one day when certain side of the world sit on the round table with rest of the world, until then, no point to continue this garbage... Promote and invest in BRICKS+ games instead.
Even the Olympics itself is struggling financially. The Commonwealth Games is likely dead after Australia backed out. It's difficult to make a major sporting event like these profitable for the host nation, after which you need to justify to the tax payer why they are paying for it.

Bottom line, watch the games for what they are, at the end of the day, medal counts get forgotten the moment the game finishes anyhow. I'd say that the Chinese female team came nail bitingly close to dethroning the south Korean team in archery yesterday.

Actually I think doing well at the Olympics is a form of soft power, so China should fight hard for every gold possible.

I personally have lost a lot of interest in the Olympics.

Michael Phelps looking 60 when he's 39 and having signs of using HGH, large numbers of female athletes having XY genetic sexual conditions, special swimming suits making athletes faster than humanly possible...it's all just too much.

I remember the 2012 women's 800 meter final. The first place and third place athletes were part of the Russian doping scandal, and the second place athlete was arguably not fully a woman. To be frank, I have great sympathy for Semenya and it feels unfair to ban her for having a genetic advantage she cannot control. I think those testosterone level rules are unscientific. But when Olympic gold medals are determined by genetic sexual syndromes...it just seems there's so much gray stuff going on, and normal people cannot compete.

As for China - I think that China should compete and still try to win medals and golds. But I don't think China should put super-duper value on the Olympics. Let the West play its games to keep the United States with the most golds. The whole thing has become so flawed it's just not worth getting upset about.

Always nice to see China in first place, America underperforming, and India no where to be seen.
