I must say very very unlikely because the host can actually choose sport that have advantage for them. Imagine they have american football, baseball, squash, or another dozen variations of running then the Chinese have no way to compete.
I thought the IOC has the final say on what sports are to be included, and one criteria is that the sport must have a global reach. So American football would be a no-go. The IOC says:

"The Olympic Charter indicates that in order to be accepted, a sport must be widely practiced by men in at least 75 countries and on four continents and by women in no fewer than 40 countries and on three continents."

Somehow they got baseball last Olympic in Tokyo and I seriously doubt that it is being played in 75 countries.

Dragonboating meets the criteria and yet has been repeatedly denied

IOC is heavily influenced by US bribes

But is dragonboating much different than rowing/canoeing? If it becomes an Olympic sport, then wouldn't the medals go to whichever countries currently dominate rowing or canoeing? Just because dragonboating is Chinese does not mean Chinese will dominate. After all, basketball was invented by a white guy.

Given the amount of evildoing WADA has exposed, it's definitely possible US bribed the referees
Surprise that they didn't show us the VAR review of the US goal. Cos in the slow-mo replay. It looked like the American was off side. Something is dodgy here.

China gold prospects remaining (Currently at 37)

High chance
1 in synchro swimming
1 in weightlifting

Possible golds:
~1 in boxing (75kg)

Estimated final golds are ~39 up to 40
Not even long shot events remain. This is basically the final tally.

US (currently 35) has:
2 x relays definitely US gold unless they screw up baton passing again, but in 400m that's more unlikely
2 x basketball definitely US gold

After this they will already have 39 matching China

But they still have ~4 not-guaranteed but pretty high chance events:
1 in women's volleyball, 1 in women's omnium, ~1 in women's wrestling 76kg, ~1 in men's breakdance (lol)

China will need to win the boxing final AND US needs to lose at least 4 events.
I think the odds are pretty impossible for China to top the tally

1 x hurdles(?) > I remember someone saying this is one more guaranteed gold for US

It was always a long shot given how swimming was sabotaged. Still didn't expect it to be this close though.

Will perhaps on a team basis, but on a national basis China has a couple additional golds from Hong Kong and Taipei that would tip the favor in China's balance. In any case even China coming close to the US is already a huge achievement, given how the odds are stacked in the US's favor, especially this Olympics. Overall, I don't think too much emphasis should be placed on winning the Olympics or beating the US. It's a huge achievement if it happens, but it's not something that people should focus on so much.

For me personally as I have stated several times, it's the breakthroughs that count. Swimming , tennis, womens boxing and heavyweight stuff. They can no longer use this stuff against us.

Some sports that we can try to improve next Olympics: fencing, wrestling, canoeing, cycling, taekwondo. These all having a lot of events. Canoeing we already having 2 golds. Fencing and Wrestling are all Japan's gold mine and we can do the same. Cycling basically just has a lot events but not really dominated by the US. Taekwondo we got some silver but I believe we can get gold.
