There's not many golds in weightlifting anymore and the West is catching up in diving and gymnastics. A couple of pages back someone suggested that China needed Western coaches. We had some Western coaches in rowing /kayaking and the velodrome biking which achieved modest success but drew much criticism for the cost. I reckon had we kept it up, those sports would have given us a fewmore medals including gold.

Actually Chinese mens gymnastics is even more dominating this year, especially without russia participating.

Synchronized swimming and
rhythmic gymnastics too. Big medal chances with the traditionally dominant Russians absent. Especially synchronized swimming. China have been the number two for very long.

interestingly the results for yesterday's final race is alot slower than in Tokyo. Something is up in Paris pool water. Hardly any WR been broken so far.

Qin was was interviewed post race. He said he really wanted to win, maybe too much. I suspect the reason is simply he went too hard and disturb his natural rhythm. It probably put him off at the end. Previously he mentioned his goal is to break the 100m WR. It seem more important to him than the 200m.

Hopefully he can learn from. his and concentrate on the 200m. Peaty is not much threat in the 200 but the French superstar Marchand and the whiny forner WR holder aussie are dangerous

The reason the races are a lot slower is that the swimming pool is only 2.2m deep to save costs. The pools in previous olympics were deeper. A shallower pool means that the reflections of underwater waves bouncing off the pool floor have a greater effect on the swimmers and can slow them down.
