The china vs Spain women's basketball game is nuts wow. Into overtime now! The crowd is so one sided for Spain and commentary also sucks. Way too biased. Feck them.

Hope china pulls through. The ending was so crazy. China should have won. Why did they foul a three point shooter ffs

Yao huddling with the team is such a sight lol

Ok game ended.

China women’s team lost just by a point. Wat a pity. Valiant effort though. Glad I didn’t miss it. Just a pang of regret cuz they started so well and led throughout the game till the very end when spain tied it.
Questions needed to be asked though with the coaching staff. They seem to have inherited the men’s team bone headed decision making.

At the end of regulation time and overtime when it really mattered they took the wrong choice of actions. they fouled a 3 point shooter when they should not have at end of regulation when ahead, did not attempt a 3 point shot themselves at end of overtime when trailing by 3, then after making the 2 did not immediately foul the opponent to have another chance. Seriously wtf. Even the biased pro Spain American commentator wondered what was going on with Chinese team decision making. It was that bad. Damn wat a chance. Hopefully they get over it and go again. This is a good enough team to medal Judging from this performance minus the errors. Li Yueru is a star.

Dang my heart rate and blood pressure just went through the roof lol. need to calm down

There's a reason why Hong Kong and now China have to keep using foreigners a lot for coaching because local coaching is terrible. Imagine being at the mercy of foreigners who are just there for a paycheck but you have no choice.

It depends on the sport I guess. I am seriously doubting the quality of coaching for China basketball national team right now. But for table tennis, diving and I guess weightlifting, Chinese coaches are the best in the world.

Medal contention event alert
the archery team is in the women’s team final. They are up against the South Koreans though. SK in archery is like, China in table tennis, or US in basketbal. It is going to take monumental effort to dethrone them. But at least silver is guaranteed.
PS the coach for china seem to be a Korean, I thought I heard him yelling Korean at the Chinese players lol

China still has the capability to do well in mens and womens 4x200m relays, medley relays and mixed relay.

Especially, the mens medley relay, they set the 2nd fastest all-time in 2023 Asian games. If you factor in Zhang Yufei in womens butterfly, they are competitive in mixed relay.

I just realized that there is parallel between Olympic events and manufacturing. When China dominates in “lame” events it traditionally dominates at like table tennis or badminton, Western countries don’t bat an eye, just like when China dominated manufacturing low value added items like clothing or toys. When China starts getting good at swimming, which is something Western countries traditionally dominate and is high value due to the number of medals added, they start panicking and try to Tonya Harding the Chinese team, just like they tried and failed to cripple Chinese semiconductor.

There is nothing high value about bribing a committee so they make 100 events on 1 specific sport while another equally large sport has 1 or 0 events.

How do you think a nation of 330 million that has more obese than normal people is always swapping no1 or 2 gold places with China, the most populous advanced country with an overall fit population?

Drugs and unfair play.

That's why this Olympic I really hope they get some gold in swimming. It's shows the development of China from relying just on stuff like ping pong into taking the fight to the western domain.

That’s how it happens in manufacturing as well. You think Japanese semiconductor declined all by itself?

The reason they are trying so hard to smear China in swimming is because swimming is basically THE lifeblood of the anglo countries like US/UK/AUS.

It's a sport they had a natural advantage in (rich + lots of land = more swimming pools) so they inflated it with a ridiculous number of medals. You can tell because it's one of the only sports where athletes can consistently take part in and win multiple events a year (eg Phelps, Caeleb, Ledecky)

Losing this would destroy their bragging rights and the myth of western domination at sports.
I just heard the aussie commentators laughed off the fact the French getting the Olympics commitee to extend the swimming schedule to 8 days instead of the traditional 7 days. Just so their hometown star Marchand can swim in all his preferred events and get enough rest between them. If this was the Chinese team getting their way, the aussies would definitely instigate an investigation of corruption and unfair advantage.
