If one thing to see with all these Silvers in China it's that China has a VERY wide range of sports it has strong people in. This is despite people claiming they can only grind ping pong and diving..
Once these can be converted to gold, then people will really start fearing China.
It's funny because in any other circumstance, getting silver at Olympic is already insane. But because we want to get more golds than the US, even silver isn't good enough. The timing really changes everything.

US are heavy favourites in 4 athletics events tonight + women's volleyball and women's water polo + men's basketball semi finals also coming up tonight.

China brings a lot less athletes than US, they only choose 300 or so vs US bringing 600. The year China brought a ton of athletes (2008), it wasn't even close.
US getting more golds still make US' better at this Olympics rounds, at least according to normal human logic... But applying the per capita logic of some abnormal humans...
1 gold for men does not disprove that Chinese women carry their men patriots for non-dominating sports. Chinese women won 1 gold in tennis, 1 gold in bmx, 1 gold in athletics, all non-dominating sports. Can potentially win 1 gold in hockey and 1 in 57kg wresling as well. Not even count silver in taekwondo, archery, etc.
