Is it just me or are Chinese female in team sports far more competitive than the male one? Even individual athletes wise I think this Olympics the females have cinched more medal than the men.

When China became a part of the Olympics games under Deng, commentators were saying that Chinese women will probably move more quickly into the medals because that is how the human body works or something like that.

Back then, it was true, Chinese women made greater strides than the men, as the men started to catch up to the women's medal haul years later.

Forget the scientific reasons. It was a long time ago when I read about it.

Update on gold prospects remaining

High chance
2 in table tennis
3 in diving
1 in synchro swimming
3-4 in weightlifting

Possible golds:
~2 in boxing (women's 50kg, 54kg, 66kg and semifinal in 75kg)

Currently at 25
Estimated final golds (based on these sports only) are 34-37

Not including sports I'm unsure of like athletics, sailing, canoeing, taekwondo and team sports where quite a few more could also come.

US has (possibly) another ~4 in athletics, ~2 in basketball, ~1 in golf, ~2 in volleyball and beach volleyball, ~1 in water polo, ~1 in football and ~1-2 in wrestling for a total of ~38-39

Apparently I undercounted so the US total is still estimated 38-39

They got a ton of lucky golds in things like surfing and cycling while Chinese team has had pretty bad luck in non-historically-dominant sports even if they entered finals. Not to mention US athletics team is doped out of their minds this year.

Sure, swimming is outlier with maybe weighlifting but China men team sucks in many other sports which requires strength, from basketball, volleyball, athletics, boxing, etc. Even in swimming, if not for Pan Zanle being too good, men swimming team will earn nothing. The two gold swimming medal is Pan Zanle carrying his team. Not only the number of medals earned from female teams are higher, the number of sport female teams earn are also more diversified with non-dominating sport like hockey, taekwondo, bmx, etc. To conclude, female carry this olympic for China hard. Men are not even close, especially some disgrace like Shi Yuqi.

True to degree but those who did .....rose to the occasion and DID!! and sometimes it's only a few that leads the rest to victory -before paris I didn't know who Pan was -now I and world most certainly do.The women can be total tigresses-their ferocity in volleyball and now field hockey is very evident-love it.The gold winning synchronized swim team was like a gorgeous military unit-love it.BTW Phelps just called for a total lifetime ban on Chinese swimmers-guess his asthma/ADD/ADHD whatever nonsense exemption illnesses has "gotten better"A**hole but delicious to smell their fear for LA28

Tf are you talking about? All technique sports, some even team sports. In raw strength (weights) China is so dominant US cheated by getting weightlifting medal numbers reduced.

If they started massively introducing technique sports that are more common in China (for example wushu), China would obviously also be much more dominant in that than in greco roman wrestling.

It's a complete travesty that dragon boating and wushu are not Olympic sports while surfing, skateboarding and breakdancing are.

It's pretty clear the games are rigged toward rich western countries so just enjoy it and try not to care too much about the medal tally

And you cannot rely on weightlifting to earn gold while the US has athletics has nearly 50 events and swimming is 40 events. Out of 50 events in athletics this year, China men team earn ZERO medal while China women team has 3. Can you argue that China men team earn zero in athletics is because Chinese run differently than the US?

Most men (including Americans, besides the morbidly obese ones) ARE below 80kg. 100kg+ weight class lifters are visibly obese, and at the same time insanely muscular.

Average men are gonna prefer having this bodyshape (and relate more to) this mediumweight guy than this Iranian heavyweight.

Heavyweight lifters are basically like modern sumos. All credit to their dedication, but China doesn't dominate the category as extensively for a good reason, it's a path with a lot of bodily self sacrifice in a culture where people generally don't do such extreme stuff for sports.
