The new Bytedance deal seems to a typical daylight robbery. The chinese people will abandon the Douyin app if it is deemed in any way to be betraying them in this tech tussle. Get ready for a mass outflow of users to KuaiShou.

Yes. Huawei had many years to prepare for this but they didn't and instead piled on many non-critical researches such as perfecting it's cellphone camera system functionality . One of the best in the industry but unnecessary

WASHINGTON (REUTERS) - Companies that supply the chip sector with sophisticated and expensive equipment plan to warn the Trump administration against a proposal to blacklist China's top chipmaker, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC), arguing it would be "detrimental" to US industry.

The companies are represented by the semiconductor and electronics manufacturing suppliers industry group SEMI, which drafted a letter seen by Reuters that could be sent as soon as this week to US Commerce Department Secretary Wilbur Ross.

In the draft letter, the group argued that blacklisting SMIC would jeopardize the United States' technological edge by making it harder for US companies to supply the company, which accounts for as much as US$5 billion (S$6.8 billion) in annual US origin equipment and material sales.

They also argue that such a move would "contribute to a growing perception" that the delivery of US goods is "unreliable" and hit US market share worldwide.

The US semi industry was also against Trump putting sanctions on sales to Huawei. It didn't matter.
If the US government decides to enact sanctions they will. Of course SMIC won't drop Huawei as a client unless the sanctions are approved. I doubt the mere threat of sanctions will stop them from dealing with Huawei. Even TSMC resisted it and they're in Taiwan.

Fits in to other article of SMIC applying for US license. No license no cooperation with Huawei.

This article indicates SMIC also suspend the domestic replacement development project with Huawei. Talk about being a coward!

Yeah the article says...
