That article is from Taiwan. Why would Chinese companies avoid Huawei? Do they think Trump won't go after them if they go along? Taiwanese are liars just as much as Hong Kongers.
Fits in to other article of SMIC applying for US license. No license no cooperation with Huawei.

This article indicates SMIC also suspend the domestic replacement development project with Huawei. Talk about being a coward!

I believe this is US deliberate strategy of leaking out possible sanction to scare SMIC. US had sanctioned many Chinese tech companies directly. It doesnt need to leak anything. US knows if sanctioned SMIC then SMIC will have nothing to hold back and will cooperate with Huawei.

This leaked threat will make SMIC stay away from Huawei. After all SMIC understand semiconductor process more than Huawei. It would be valuable as a resource in helping Huawei domestic tech replacement.

The 25% stock price drop on SMIC will make SMIC think twice about helping Huawei.
Smart move on US part.

Once Huawei dies then US would sanction SMIC.

I believes this is US government countermove after hearing Huawei 45nm domestic development. It believes SMIC is helping Huawei to achieve that.

Wouldn't hold your breath on that. Huawei's high end phone sales are in danger of pausing. Huawei as a tech company is in no danger. And the waiting game is the last game the US can afford to play with Chinese tech moving so fast.

Huawei and SMIC both rely on SMEE. Without the ability to produce chips absent of US tech, SMIC has very little if anything to offer Huawei. If it was all about greed holding back progress, the CCP can easily intervene to prevent SMIC from selling itself.

Everything here is speculation. Just because SMIC is saying they aren't helping Huawei. DOes anyone really believe that? come on now let's not be gullible. How will the American CHIP Gestapo know that SMIC engineers aren't moonlighting for Huawei?

I don't think Ron Vara is that clever.
