Yes......from now on Hisilicon will be very busy. With the sanctions, Huawei will have to make all its own Chips for its consumer devices in its own FABs. It will likely cooperate with local companies as well.

It will have to design its own Chips for Mobiles, Computers and other consumer devices like TVs etc.
Basically Hisilicon becoming like Qualcomm, Samsung and Intel combined.

I don't think they need to do everything. They can outsource it, as long as it's local companies that's fine. There definitely needs to be a ton of collaboration between local companies for this to work, and the CCP needs to be the referee. Probably a lot of overseas Chinese Americans who work in IC are going back to China to jump in. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to start your own company.

Also, it seems like the rumors surrounding 45 nm fab is also supposedly denied by Huawei? @WTAN

However I do believe the technology is there to set up a de-americanized fab.
Huawei wont admit this to the Western Press. This will only get the Trump Admin more excited.

SMIC is already building a localised 28nm FAB in Beijing. I wouldnt be surprised if they then sold the FAB to Huawei on completion.

The new SMEE Litho machine will be ready next year. Also alot of 14nm to 28nm Semiconductor Equipment by local Manufacturers will be released next year.

The Govt will also be stepping in now and directly funding Semiconductor equipment manufacturers and ensuring they produce the latest euipment.

Huawei should do a Joint Venture with SMEE to develop EUV Machines. Will this happen?

Hi WTAN,

Wow, Ren Zhengfei is really a fighter, China is lucky to have somebody like him, His legacy had been institutionalized within the company. I think targeting Huawei is a major blunder, it makes a Hero out of it. A peoples champion worthy of praise.

Hi WTAN,

The answer is definitely a Yes, They have no choice. Regarding our discussion on the EUV progress, the main problem holding it back is the power source. Lately Gigaphoton of JApan had produce a 250kw LPP, can SMEE use it. Is there any restriction placed on it, If there is, why build a product were there is no customer, since ASML is already committed to CYMER?

I seriously think that people on this forum are freaking out about the sanctions more than actual Huawei employees.
My girlfriend is working for Huawei, but not in IT sector.
-----------
So we can see if fully Chinese fabs for 14 nm are put into operation in 2021, there will be come back of Huawei smartphones in low end market in late 2021 or early 2022. High end unfortunately won't happen in short term, can they make 5 nm by 2025? Hope they can but we won't see Mate pro series and p pro series for a long time.

Fingers crossed for Biden and China must blackmail Apple to lobby.

If Biden wins he may allow Qualcomm to sell its Chips to Huawei for its Mobiles. Mobile Phones not considered Strategic type Technology. Huawei must try to keep alive its Huawei Mobile Services Ecosystem.

The harmony OS and the app store need to be made available to other Chinese and foreign brands. This way any type of sanctions on wechat and any Chinese app will not happen just because the mad guy of a foreign hegemony decides to do so.

Also, Apple is making too much revenue from their app store. The harmony OS should be able to compete worldwide and divert revenue from Apple app store or Google play.

It is considered a threat because mobile phone business side for Huawei contributes to their market cap and productivity, therefore contributes to their R&D and project funding power. R&D and projects that also involve various telecomm technologies that when applied can cut the US out of spying on others with their own systems e.g. CISCO etc who have all been proven to have backdoors and proven to have spied for the US gov and higher up. Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Apple ... all continue to spy for the US gov. Again this is all common but often ignored knowledge because of the decades of US brainwashing and morality posturing to those who still benefit from their regime reign.

Plus they also just don't want a Chinese technology company that is wealthy and doing well. They even destroyed French, German, Taiwanese, and Japanese technology companies. If not destroyed, at least attempted to or bought off or threatened or leashed in one way or another e.g. TSMC and ASML for the latter group. There aren't that many strategically important non-US tech companies that don't fall into one of these categories; 1. attempted to sabotage 2. bought off either board influence, outright or otherwise 3. threatened to comply with their demands 4. punished for violating their selfish wishes.

Lobbying the US to keep selling chips to China is like lobbying the British for more opium because you can't handle your withdrawal symptoms. I never want to see another American chip in China again, not even a Dorito. Qualcomm should be permanently banned, no more tech opium.

Biden? No way. If America elects Biden, the world may see that as a chance of hope that American can return to its leadership position. I want Trump Trump Trump until the US goes down like the Soviet Union. I want all US allies to know that this is the man that America wants to represent them and the America of this year with all its disasters, failures, criminal activity and diplomatic transgressions is the norm going forward. I want either Dotard himself to change the American constitution (to the backdrop of American cities burning under protests) so he can continue past the second term or for one of his imbecile sons to be elected after him. Let American allies know that America is gone forever.

2025?? By 2025 Huawei will probably lead the world in semiconductor production. Next year SMEE comes out with its DUV capable of making 7nm chips and Huawei has been looking into dual processor designs. Unlike all other generations where the packing density is doubled, 7nm to 5nm is not that big a leap. Huawei can likely overcome the difference just by design.

China has more people than the US and EU combined, more stem talent than the entire developed world combined; if China can't get this done in record time, Chinese people don't deserve to use cellphones!

Hi manqiangrexue,

Huawei had already cross the rubicon with this latest US sanction, there is no turning back if they survive this ordeal. A lesson that should be learn by other Chinese tech company. In the eye of the west your NOTHING to them. An example is the Taiwanese tech company, They were not consulted by the US, and they are the one who is severely affect by this.
