I love how Trump's gang was saying China was going to collapse day one of Trump's trade war against China and then when it did nothing and actually exports grew to the US, they were moving the goal posts saying China wouldn't be affected until half a year later and then went that came and went and nothing happened it would be another half a year. Then when Trump forced TMSC to stop selling chips to China, within a month they were claiming how Trump's order to Taiwan had did nothing to Taiwan's economy and profits were even greater. Now word is Taiwan is diversifying trying to turn itself into an international financial hub like Hong Kong. International companies are only in Hong Kong to have access to China. And then when Trump enacts financial restrictions like on tech, Taiwan is going to be screwed there too.

There is rumor that Huawei planned to set up a fab for 14nm within two years.

Huawei building a fab
Huawei is said to be building a fab. It is reported that it will be running 45nm wafers by the end of the year.

Huawei is supposed to have called the fab project ‘Tashan’ meaning courageous or daring. It is certainly that.

Reports say that the 45nm line can be finalised without using US manufacturing equipment.

Whether or not this includes second hand American equipment already brought into China before Huawei was blacklisted is unknown.

However Shanghai Microelectronics is said to be providing the litho machines for the 45nm process and claims that it will be producing 28nm-capable litho machines next year.

That's believable. Shanghai microelectronics makes a 90 nm machine that could probably do 45nm with two exposures.

Huawei registers new trademark for talent development and technological breakthroughs-cnTechPost

Huawei has registered the "Sangtian Island" trademark on June 15, 2020, in order to work on talent development and technological breakthroughs.

According to Weibo digital blogger @

, the first phase of Huawei's "Sangtian Island" base has been put into use with 360,000 square meters, while the second phase is under renovation and is expected to be put into use by the end of this year.

The "Sangtian Island" base is mainly positioned as an integrated area for technology research and development, education, industry, ecology and supporting functions.
According to the Weibo blogger, Huawei and the local industrial park have jointly built the "Huawei (Suzhou) AI Innovation Center", which will jointly create an innovation ecology for AI applications.
This is another initiative by Huawei to promote its own innovation.

At an event early this month, Huawei Consumer Business CEO Richard Yu said Huawei will be rooted in all aspects in the semiconductor field to breakthrough basic research and precision manufacturing in physics and materials science.

On August 15, the Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NJUPT) established a school named after Huawei in order to jointly train talent with the Chinese tech giant.

The university and Huawei co-hosted a signing ceremony and jointly unveiled the "Huawei School of Information and Network Technology," "School of Future Technology," and "5G Internet of Things Lab."

In June, Huawei opened a "virtual" artificial intelligence (AI) academy in Singapore, offering 140 free online courses on AI, 5G, cloud computing and big data.

Huawei said it aims to certify 1,000 engineers in the country by the end of next year.
The academy will also provide hands-on experience in AI development through simulation labs and will start offering Cyber Range training courses next quarter to help small and medium-sized businesses and their partners better protect against cybersecurity threats.

Hi localizer,

Thank you very much for the article, its very educational. The difficulties and constrain China has gone thru, it need to harness its own population to produce result, while the US had use the talent of other nation and claim it as its own. That is why cooperation is needed, but for countries to cooperate, you must have the capability and technology to share.

If anyone has any updates on lithography developments in China that would great. Especially if anything on EUV. Thanks.

Also, it seems like the rumors surrounding 45 nm fab is also supposedly denied by Huawei? @WTAN

However I do believe the technology is there to set up a de-americanized fab.

Hi WTAN,

What happen to Hisilicon, I heard that they had a recruitment expansion this year?
Yes......from now on Hisilicon will be very busy. With the sanctions, Huawei will have to make all its own Chips for its consumer devices in its own FABs. It will likely cooperate with local companies as well.

It will have to design its own Chips for Mobiles, Computers and other consumer devices like TVs etc.
Basically Hisilicon becoming like Qualcomm, Samsung and Intel combined.
