21,000 tanks that makes up a huge maintenance bill. I kind of doubt all 21,000 tanks are still in service. Many of them would have been given away to the split up Republics.

I think a third or half of them may still be in service or in temporary mothball condition. That includes the T-72s and some of the T-64s.

Soviet union had about 40,000.

Ok. T-64 is not in service anymore. There should be about 1,000 T-90, 5,000 T-80 of different mods, and to the end of 90s there were about 10,000 T-72s, but i have no idea how many of those remain in service for now. Also there are 10,000 T-54 and 8,000 T-62 in reserve (no saying about condition).

I don't know about the T-54s and T-62s. I remember hearing about a lode of T-62s that were scrapped and melted down by a Chinese bone yard into metal ingots. There is a lot of large scrapping and recycling operations in China buying all sorts of old hulks around the world, and the economy needs the metal.

The USSR had 40,000 tanks, after the collapse of the USSR, Russia got 21,000 well the rest wet to the break up states. They should all be serviceable.

Not when I last saw them a couple of years ago when I was in Russia! I saw a couple hundred T-62, T-64 and T-72 hulks sitting out in various fields and abandoned depots rusting away...

The Russians count any tanks that are under the control of its armed forces as active, while western armies tend to count only the tanks in active service. For example if the US army counted all the Abrams rusting in fields waiting to be refurbished it would also have 4 or 5 times as it really does… Not only that but the Russians sometimes even count tanks in long term storage or tank museums!

21,000 MBT in Russian army, i'll highly doubt that the bulk of the 21,000 could stand a chance in todays modern battlfield against superior MBT, maybe 21,000 MBT can be seen but not all are operational and comparable as superior. BACK TO TYPE 99 THREAD ITS NOT A RUSSIA MBT THREAD

Not quite. T-90SA also, and there are some claims that since 1999 Russian T-90 have welded turrets as well. There is no accurate information on this.

Actually there are only two turret choices for T-90:
-all-welded obiekt 187 turret
-all-cast T-72B turret
There are no combined versions.
By the way, "S" stands for the export version.

So?

Kaktus was never meant for T-90, it was designed for future tanks like T-80AT.

I would still like to see the source.

You probably do not know, but those rounds do not differ that much. The only DU piece in M829A3 is it's penetrator, which is nearly bullet-sized, the steel-made tail is still vulnerable.
Again, this era has a chance to "defeat" anything given that there is some armor behind. Otherwise it will be useless against M823 and DM53 alike.

Oh but I do know - they are very different rounds , you are stating to me that Russia will not field Kaktus armor on the T-90 series because it was supposed to go on its failed tank project Black Eagle, other sources state other wise with also the possibility of them placing more advanced armor packages on them.

Re: Chinese Tanks

China would send all of its tanks if they want to stand a chance against the U.S., I am sure they will bring all of their might to bear. China will fight to reunify with Taiwan while the U.S. will fight for Taiwan's democracy. I don't know what it has to do with the terrain, weather, time of year etc. But this is all speculation.

trying to maintain the entire tanks fleet combat ready is very costly ,even country like israel unable maintain 100% combat ready for there large tanks fleet.
