You better give more than just a statement because this thread won't be lasting long if you don't.

I don't thank you are a moderator. From your profile you are just a member, and I will let the real moderators decide the future of this thread. I did not come to this forum to be chewed out all the time by someone like you for no reason.:nono:

Re: Chinese Tanks

So what do you think if 5000 U.S. tanks went up against around 7500 Chinese tanks.:coffee:

???

1- I don't think either nation could properly support all those tanks in the field

2- even as pure specualtion is it pure force on force tanks only or is each side bringing the rest of thie rmight to bear.

3- what scenerio type- terrain, weather, time of year etc.

4- what is each side fighting for?

China would send all of its tanks if they want to stand a chance against the U.S., I am sure they will bring all of their might to bear. China will fight to reunify with Taiwan while the U.S. will fight for Taiwan's democracy. I don't know what it has to do with the terrain, weather, time of year etc. But this is all speculation.

the only place i can think of for a massive tank battle is the russian serbia...korea or taiwan or SE asia is impossible to field large amount of tanks due to the terrian.

I agreed its all wild speculation. Due to terrain, tanks were never a decisive factor in any east Asian war, other than act as mobile pill boxes or artillery support. This will always be the sphere of infantry.

So why did China field a vast tank army, including mechanized troops. The PLA is probably more mechanized than any of its neighbors except the Russians.

North of China however, to the Gobi Desert and Inner Mongolia, are vast plains and deserts. During the Cold War they faced the tank hordes of the Soviet Union, at least no less than 17 divisions faced them off. Chinese tank development all the way to the ZTZ-99 were designed originally against this.

Historically the north has been the area for cavalry armies, hence conflict in northern China has been traditionally dominated by the need of mobility, range and firepower.

The time of year- determines temperature. In older tanks the summer heat can and does rapidly degrade crew performance and if hot enough can even affect how ammunition performs.

Weather- All US tanks have modern FLIR, some Chinese tanks do as well but most of those are of an older generation and more easily degraded by things like smoke, fog, rain, snow.

Terrain- determines how many tanks you can employ and how you use them.

The Russians have over 21,000 tanks curretly in service so that is likely. North Korea's tanks are old 1960's designs and are obsolete, they will be wiped out in a few days just like the rest of there military. Taiwan could be possible because of China. :china:

The Russians can't even maintain 21,000 tanks today... most of them are rusted (and outdated) hulks.

No one can field over 1000 tanks on today's battlefield. Today's modern tanks are infinitively more complex than the tanks of the immediate post World War II era.
