I didn't watch the entire 40+min. Seems to be a mostly fluff piece. most of the time devoted to criticizing a foreign ranking that ranked Chinese Type-99 poorly. not worth your time.
Why? China needs to invade someone or fear being invaded?
Incidentally, there has been a consistent rumor that China has tested a new tank with 2100 hp engine and either a 140mm gun or a 155mm gun. This is credible because at the end of the Cold War, both Russia and Germany was on the verge of issuing requirements for similarly armed and powered tanks for service entry around 1998. The Germans actually tested a 140mm gun in a Leopard 2. So technology for such vehicles have existed for some time. Only the end of cold war removed the pressing need.
This would not mean the Chinese can compete with the latest active vehicle defence technology, but it does mean the Chinese might be prepared to field a tank with strongest gun and highest mobility in the world.

Partially. China needed to field something equal or better than land powers that could invade her on land. And also to be able to sell these tanks to other nations. If the Chinese could develop and create something better or equal than those that are already been fielded or currently being developed and still sell them are a cheaper or price, there is a market out there and this market is quite substantial.

Say what? In the foreseeable future, No neighbors of China can possibly invade her successfully, with or without a new tank, and if advanced aliens invade China from space, then a new tank wouldn't make any difference.

Chinese tank development has come a long way in a short period, but I highly doubt the command staff of the PLA are satisfied yet. For export and for indigenous forces the type 99 is today more then a match for Russian or many lesser NATO offering but tanks are still changing, and the Chinese still have gaps to fill. Active defenses, counter technologies to active defenses, IR camouflage systems, remote weapons, higher velocity rounds, advanced cloud based command and control, signature control, power efficiency. I don't see the Chinese as suddenly breaking out with hover tanks but more or less getting to par with roughly equivalent equipment.
now to the important things, in the event of a Godzilla attack, the PLA is not ready. I am sorry but no. Godzilla can sink the entire fleet of the PLAN and turn whole army corps into smoking charcoal. Best Beijing could hope for... Indeed the world is that BIG G is merciful and decides to just settle down on the Senkaku there by rendering all claims of the islands mute, as no one would want them if they had to deal with a short tempered fire breathing 50 story multimillion ton amphibious walking nuclear weapon.
