Out of curiosity, have the helmets gone into widespread service? They were there at the 60th Anniversary but more recent training news reports still show the padded headgear.

No. Both have smoke grenade launchers.
Main difference is that MBT3000 weigh 52 tons and could reach a speed of 67km/hr while the MBT2000 weigh at 42.8ton with a top speed of 57km/hr.
MBT3000 is basically an export model of the Type 99/Type 98 while the MBT2000 is the Type 90IIM.
Also according to some forums out there () Take the information with a grain of salt though.
MBT 3000 runs on a 1300hp (969KW) diesel engine while the Pakistan version of the MBT-2000 runs on a 1200hp diesel engine.

according to october/2013 issue of Ordance Knowledge magazine,page 26,Chinese 125mm DU kinetic round capable of penetrating 1050mm of armour plate at 2000 meter range.
while no photo of Chinese 125mm DU round ever seen, but a pakistan 125mm DU round was first seen in 2011,it's is likely both round share same performance.in fact,Pakistani round could be a liscense copy. since late 1999 (after the 10/1 parade),Chinese media claim the existence of DU rd for type-98.MBT

China needs a 21st century tank. Something like T-120 (just imagining a number). To compete with the most modern tanks being fielded/developed now.
