I think its way more than 50. As a matter of fact I'm not sure if Salut even declared the right number of engines or shipped engines that they did not bother to declare.

This is what I would expect the J-10 regiments. About 24 single seaters, 4 double seaters, 28 aircraft total. I based this on the number of hangers on the Yunnan province base of one of the 44th Division based on Google Earth sighting.

13th Trials Regiment of the FTTC, location Caijing AFB, Beijing MR.

130th Regiment of the 44th Division, location Kunming, Chengdu MR

131th Regiment of the 44th Division, location Menzies, Chengdu MR.

5th Regiment of the 2nd Division, location Guilin, Guanzhou MR. Either its the 4th or the 5th but I believe its the 5th. The 6th Regiment uses J-11s.

9th Regiment of the 3rd Division, location Wuhu AFB, Nanjing MR. I am more inclined its the 9th rather than the 8th. The 7th Regiment uses Su-30MKK.

3rd Regiment of the 1st Division, location Anshan, Shenyang MR. I'm not really sure of the location. Anshan is the general location for the 1st Divsion. The 1st Regiment uses J-8F and the 2nd Regiment uses J-11.

That's going to be over 150 aircraft but we're not going to assume they will fill every spot at least not yet. Some spots may be backordered.

yeah, they've just started to spot J-10s in Guilin, so it's not fully equipped yet. Also, a lot of J-10s are still sitting at CAC waiting to finish the necessary testing before flying to their operational regiments.

At least 100 + 2 + 8 + 54 + 9, however I don't believe all the engine shipments are fully accounted for or declared. Small orders, for examples, for spares, need not be declared.

Are their any official documents of precise numbers of the AL-31 engine being delivered from Russia to China? Because I can hardly find any documents that specify this, ones found aren't legit or real. My estimates earlier were that their were 170 or so engines for the J-10's from Russia. I has hoping for any exact or about the same answer from someone. Refering to Crobato your number that you posted is 173 which is about the same as what I suspected, which was in the 170 range. Thanks for confirming my estimates.

hey, where did the 2, 8 and 9 deals come from? Are they basically all for the prototypes? I don't think China will probably get spares for J-10s at a later point like they are doing with that 180 AL-31 order for flankers.

They were probably to power the J-10 prototypes and the small initial J-10 group for testing and evaluation.

8 is a typo. 2 engines were additionally ordered after the 100, which suggests they were spares. 9 engines came before the 54 engines and used for the prototypes. Kanwa reported there were more engines sent after the 54 engine batch and before the 100 engine batch. Cannot be verified however. Given the way the prototypes are used, there should be more engines sent ater the first 9 and before the 54 engine batch.

Small engine orders will not catch public media attention and won't be worth the cost of the printed page, and at the same time, has little marketing or boasting value to the maker. Just remember, the supply of AL-31F engines as spares are very poorly documented. of not at all, for more than 10 years. Only the last order of 100 engines from Salut (seperate from the AL-31FN order) and 80 engines from UFA have been recently reported in the last year or so, even though both companies have been supplying spares since 1998.

There is a discrepancy between the number of engines delivered and the number of estimated J-10s deployed in the various locations, given regimental sizes.

I don't know if the link still exists after all these years. After all, this was more than 3 years ago.
