yangwang U9 looks just brilliant. Look at that highly efficient motor and control at high temperature. Just unbelievably top notch

Weichai building factory in Brazil which will eventually be locally produced for south america market. Great to see that China has now fully moved to the part of making investment in foreign market and providing the tech in return for market access. A huge reverse of the past 40 years when foreign JVs make investments in China. Power dynamics completely changed

Having a major international brand becoming 100% dependent on Chinese supply chain is always a good thing

now we just need more of this.

Stellantis controls 51% of the joint venture. Their intention is to learn and take all Chinese EV technology, and the consumers will not even know they are in fact Chinese technology. By entering into this type of minority stake joint venture, Leapmotor has given up the international market. More of this type joint venture will prevent more Chinese brands from becoming major international brands themselves. Laggers like Stellantis is supposed to be wiped out by Chinese EV brands.

Being an OEM is not that bad of a thing, since China controls the battery/rare earth supply chain, it's not like they can just take the technology and dump the Chinese companies. JVs also protect Chinese companies from protectionist policies.

why do consumers need to know it's chinese tech? At end of the day, Stellantis has basically signalled it can't develop the tech itself and is relying on Leapmotor to do all the tech development. It's unreasonable to expect European govt allow Chinese automakers to destroy their national champions. The next best thing is to have these large european automakers depend on chinese supply chain

International consumers need to know it is Chinese technology, since it is all about brand and image building of Chinese EV brands and in fact this will help all other Chinese brands soft power worldwide.

It is unreasonable to have more of these type of deals, so that foreign laggards are allowed to restrict the growth if Chinese EV brands outside of China. This deal basically allows Stellantis to resell Chinese EV technology not only in Europe, but worldwide, outside of China.

Butthurt anti-China politicians make that very difficult.

Ultimately, the competition is so fierce within China with the ongoing price wars that going JV with a foreign company is the only way some of those Chinese brands will survive. It skips the entire process for establishing a local dealer network and reputation building. Being an OEM is still better than going bankrupt.

frankly, if BYD can't outcompete this. It has real problems. This is just to get european automakers hooked on to Chinese technology
