VW's issues are not EV's in itself. The cars for a while were ballooning in cost.

The Jetta remains VW's top seller in the USA, it is a sedan. All the US automakers are dropping sedans and saying they are not economically feasible. That is a major disconnect.
There is also the question why they bothered to produce the Areton when the Phaeton was a unmitigated disaster.
They keep trying to move VW upmarket, but it is simply not commanding that cachet.
The EV transition in the US has stalled somewhat
Prices have not fallen quickly enough and people's financial situations are being pressured by higher borrowing costs and inflation. It is also not helped by the failure to get projects off the ground due to political issues
This is the level of discourse in that country...
Toyota has plenty of time, but it is not unlimited. Also, the more time they take, the less dominant position they will have.
