US needs to be careful what politicians it sends to China; they can do Ted Cruz, the other Latino whose name escapes me now, they can do Gina, Tom Cotton, etc... but if they send someone who has a normal or higher IQ who has at least somewhat of an open mind, s/he's gonna get wumao'd and end up going preaching a little red book when they go home. The smarter they are the faster it happens: Newsom got wumao'd at the auto factory sitting in a car that can revolve in place; delegation of international scientists gets wumao'd right at landing seeing Beijing's airport; Elon Musk got wumao'd just smelling a Chinese person's fart while he was still in the US.

BYD's only two North American plants are in California and Ontario (Canada). He might be a snake, but obviously he is also trying to attract more investment into his state.

From a buyer's perspective, it could be service network. However the reality is that Toyota needs this experience even if the sales are pitiful.

This is not different from the NUMMI factory in Fremont CA (now owned by Tesla) and CAMI factory in Ingersoll ON.

NUMMI was making rebadged Toyota Corollas as Geo Prizms (GM) and later Corolla-based Matrix and Pontiac Vibe.

CAMI was making Suzuki Vitara and Swift rebadged as Geo Tracker and Metro respectively. Sales of these models were never great, but GM needed to learn "The Toyota Way" (Japanese-style management).

Now the master is the student once again as Toyota needs to learn "The BYD Way". Toyota has so little experience with building their own EVs. It seems simple, but the bZ4X rollout has been a total disaster.

China EV insurance registrations for week ending Oct 22: Li Auto 9,000, Tesla 8,100, Nio 4,400​

Between October 1 and October 22, Li Auto was at 26,800, Nio at 9,500, Xpeng at 9,400 and Tesla at 16,500 units.

what's interesting about this list is just how much China has taken over the global south in export. Look at that with Mexico, Phillipines, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Brazil, Krgystan, Chile and Peru. So much export to Central Asia.

This is even with very few exports to EU, US, SK & Japan.
