I come from a country where EVs probably won't take off until 2050

All I wish for is one Chinese budget ICE brand that is truly global and can compete on scale with the Japanese/koreans.

All we have are the multiple weak chinese brands introducing a few SUVs nobody wants to buy precisely because their scale is too small and nobody knows if they'll still be in the market after 5 years. Especially the state owned brands, they have even worse marketing than private brands like GWM.

Well, at least Russia (which as an auto market at some point exceeded Germany) is turning into a captive market for Chinese auto industry. 'Star' startups avoid it, but traditional manufacturers don't.
If (when) Germans/French/Americans will return there, they're up to a small surprise.

BYD's October sales are out. Over 217k for the month and 220k produced. Looks like due to more exports and delays from 20th congress, the sales lag production figures. For the first time, battery installations exceeded 10 GWh. The export sales reached 9529. So, getting over 10k for December should be a given at this point.

Apparently, they got over 2500 orders from Thailand on the first day Atto 3 got launched. They've now allocated 3000 Atto 3 for Thai market for January after allocating 5000 for rest of 2022.

Breakdown by family
Song 56,843 (huge, this is the most popular family and continue to increase)
Qin 34,670 (not sure why this is down, maybe they shifted some of its production to Song)
Han 31,614 (flat vs September)
Tang 17,161 (another big jump over September), great to see them achieving so many sales with the most expensive model
Yuan 27,548 (huge jumps over earlier this year), totally expected with export being focused on this family
Seal 11,267 (pretty good for second month of production)
Destroyer 05 9111 (flat vs September)
Dolphin 25,336 (up slightly vs September. I think this one will probably see jumps next year)

I do wonder about Denza D9. I saw that the wait time for D9 is down to 4 weeks. Production should be ramping up well here.

I'm actually really surprised by the roaring success that atto3s are having across the market, seems like I'm in the minority that doesn't like the musical instrument interior design. I guess the price/value ratio + supply is just that much better than everyone else.

Are you willing to pay some top dollars for BAudi?
BYD has denied it.

BYD sold 103,157 pure EVs in October, while Tesla sold 70,714

The lithium battery recycling business starts to become profitable in China.

If China really sells 680,000 NEVs in October, while the overall car sale is 1.85 million (ignoring the difference between wholesale and retail), then China's October NEV penetration rate will be a whopping 36%!

Geely, Chery and MG seems to be doing well in Southeast Asia to Australia with their ICE.

GM and Ford appear to be using Chinese JV engines in their vehicles, in particular, SUVs, in the US. Look at the small 1.2 to 1.5 turbo Ecotec and Ecoboost engines. By JV I mean engines designed by Chinese and European engineers in joint venture.
