Toyota used to take apart Mercedes and BMW cars, when they were preparing for their Lexus brand. At least they are better than Toyota. Several years ago a Chinese student interning in Toyota leaked info that they were buying BYD cars, taking them apart, and trying to see how stuff worked together under the hood. He was selected for his Mandarin skills.
My understanding is that tearing down competitors' vehicles is standard procedure in the auto industry, and there's nothing underhanded about it at all.At least they are better than Toyota. You have special companies that do it, if i'm not mistaken Sandy Munro's(tesla hypeman) company also does this for the EV sector. My understanding is that tearing down competitors' vehicles is standard procedure in the auto industry, and there's nothing underhanded about it at all.
Byd Zhengzhou plant update. The first phase will start production in March 2023 and the second phase start construction in June 2023.
They are building a new research center in hefei. Byd is really taking over anhui province. It will be a 10 billion rmb investment and their third passenger vehicle development base after Shenzhen and xian. Xian is still under construction, so this is huge expansion of their r&d facility also.
Also, the hefei plant will be able to produce 900 cars a day by second half of October. Quite impressive considering they just started production 4 months ago. In another year or so, they expect to reach yearly production of 1 million.
In a continued sign of their whole nation strategy, they are building a battery factory in baotou, inner Mongolia that will produce 30 gwh of blade battery a year.
