It is reported that BYD will buy 8 RORO ships that each can carry as many as 7700 cars and will cost BYD 84 millions USD. The current market price in China for such ships is about 100 millions USD each.

BYD is not alone. Anji Logistics, a subsidiary of SAIC Motor, has placed order for 5 RORO ships earlier this year.

日前,比亚迪将打造自己的“舰队”的消息不胫而走。

消息称,比亚迪将订购最多8艘7700 CEU液化天然气双燃料汽车运输船(PCTC),以应对海外快速扩张带来的运输需求。

这笔订单的船舶价格已商定为每艘8400万美元,也有业内人士表示,目前中国市场上一艘类似船舶的报价,约为1亿美元。

随着汽车行业迎来电动化、智能化大潮,中国车企近期开始密集出海,运输需求旺盛而市场上的船舶运力有限,汽车滚装船航运市场开始呈现出日益火爆的场景。

从2021年开始,汽车滚装船的订单量便迅速来到高位。去年10月,英国在线船舶估值公司VesselsValue的滚装船部门负责人Dan Nash称,新造车辆运输船的总价值(包括订单)已经高达44亿美元,超越了过去6年的总和。而今年,除比亚迪外,上汽集团旗下自营的安吉物流也在上半年先后下订了5艘滚装船。

Profit of CATL in the first 8 months of 2022 is expected to be in the range of 16.5 billion to 18 billion yuans, an increase of 112% to 132% comparing to the same period of 2021. The stock price of CATL went up by 6% on the news and pushed the market cap of the company to over 1 trillion yuans again.

According to SNE Research, in August of 2022, the total shipment of EV power batteries is 45.7 Gwh globally, including 18 Gwh from CATL. That's a market share of almost 40% for CATL, far ahead of BYD's 14.3% and LG Chem's 11% in the same month.

10月10日晚间,宁德时代公布了2022年前三季度业绩预告。公告显示,宁德时代预计今年前三季度归母净利润为165亿元~180亿元,同比增长112.87%~132.22%。其中,第三季度净利润预计88亿元~98亿元,同比翻一倍,远超市场预期。

要知道,宁德时代去年全年净利润为159.3亿元,意味着前三个季度的净利润已超过去年全年。

受此消息影响,宁德时代股价今日收涨近6%,再次站上万亿市值。

根据研究机构SNE Research公布的数据显示,今年8月,全球电动汽车电池装机量达45.7 GWh,宁德时代装机量达到18 GWh,占据全球近4成的市场份额,远高于比亚迪(14.3%)和LG新能源(11%)。今年前8个月,宁德时代装机量占全球装机量的33.7%,比第二名的LG新能源高出18.8个百分点。

More BYD news that's not cars.

Skyrail project in Shenzhen Pingshan's first phase will be up and running by the end of this year.
Phase 2 will start work in 2023 and complete by 2025.

The Changsha Dawangshan skyrail is also looking to be up and running by the end of this year.

The Wuhan HuangBo skyrail is currently undergoing study and haven't yet started.

The Jinan skyrail has multiple lines undergoing early stage planning.

Clearly, BYD is using its car factory to get contract for other technology area too. Really impressive how it's taking over so many areas of transportation.

A little more on BYD going into Thailand. It's planning to deliver 5000 before the end of the year. That's quite amazing since only 4862 EVs registered in all of Thailand from January to August.

Yuan+ in India will unveiled pricing in December and start delivery in January.

BYD's Nepal distributor is Cimex. Will be launched on October 15th.

BYD in Lao has sales price of $35.9k

Nice, BYD's electric bus is getting some coverage. Looks pretty cute.

I think NIO is going to waste a lot of money on battery-swap. Battery-swap makes perfect sense for commercial vehicles like BEV heavy trucks. But for regular passenger cars, why you need battery-swap when you can charge at 500kw or even1000kw in the near future? The core technology should be Power MOSFET(SiC/GaN), not battery-swap stations.

IIRC for Australia, they underestimated the complexity in getting the tests scheduled, so was not able to get there NCAP ratings before sales started.

This is why NIO and Xpeng frustrate me. It's good that they've decided to design their own chip, but XPeng is still somehow handling the design work to an American firm. These guys will never learn. There are perfectly great Chinese firms doing this and are sanction proof, yet they go for the most sanctionable option.

Outside of BYD, I'm not convinced any Chinese automakers can truly design it's own CPU/GPUs.
