Watershed for BYD as it overtook LG.
not really. That's a real low bar. Think higher

BYD is looking to electrify all transportation. Delivering the first batch of 120 electric tractor to Mexico's Transportes Marva

it's possible they got the type of vehicles wrong, this is from Rio Times

Looks like it's actually for semi-trucks.
The agreement with BYD complements the presence of Chinese companies such as Yutong and CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive, which are working with the government of Mexico City, the country’s capital, to modernize mass transit toward clean energy.
Looks like Chinese companies are having quite the presence there. Although I have to say that when I was there in May, I didn't notice any of this.

India's Tata Motors launched their new small hatchback Tiago EV. From what I can tell it's not really competitive with Chinese EVs.

The Tiago EV is priced at $10,000 USD introductory price for the base 19.2kwh variant, and around $12,000 for 24kwh variant. You also have to add ~1-2k in taxes for OTR price.

Compare this to the Chinese market. For $10k USD OTR you can get something like Dongfeng's Nano Box has 27.2kwh battery. So based on rough calculations Indian production is around 40-50% more expensive.

here is a picture of the Q3MA electric semi-trailer tractors delivery to Mexico. I would imagine they can build a factory in Mexico around Puebla area and capture the local market + Central America. There is quite a large auto industry in Mexico.

Atto 3 to officially launch in Thailand and Laos tomorrow

Consolidated NEV ranking for September.
I don't think Tesla exported many cars from Shanghai Giga this month, so most of those 83k should be for Chinese clients. Or maybe I'm reading this chart wrong and that's just how much they sold in China.

It seems that BYD sold more pure EVs than Tesla did in September.

Some of China's major NEV makers are doing their own R&D on chips.

China's 2023 NEV Sales estimate:
  • Total: 10.73 million (35-40% penetration rate of China's auto market)
  • BYD: 2.945 million (1.48 million pure EVs, of these, Dolphin and Yuan will be top sellers with 300,000 each)
  • Tesla: 1.25 million
  • SAIC-GM-Wuling: 650,000
  • Geely: 485,000
  • GAC: 375,000
  • Lixiang: 335,000
  • Xpeng: 300,000
  • Nio: 280,000

Btw, I intentionally did not post these market estimates. They are nonsensical and just wrong. Unless we get a major geopolitical event, there is basically no way byd only produce 2.94 million cars in 2023.

Yes. BYD is already at a monthly run-rate which means 2.5 million vehicles per year.

The announced target is 280K vehicles per month by Dec 2022, which is 3.3 million vehicles per year.

And BYD's 2023 target is 4 million vehicles in total.

From Chinese social media:
- October production for Tang family should cross the 20k mark
- Shenzhen Keji place a big order for D9, will be delivered in 4 months (likely the wait time for D9), over 30k firm orders for D9. Initial plan is to reach 15k deliveries a month
- Shenzhen phase 2 plant should start producing cars on July 30th, 2023. Remember, this is the one that's supposed to produce parts for like 700k cars a year.
- Yuan+ is going to be sold at around 1.25 million THB in Thailand.
- Apparently, the delivery time for Yuan+ is getting too long. HK customers can't wait anymore. The production for Yuan+ is suppose to exceed 30k in October.
- Two new BYD stores opened in Brazil on 4th/5th of October. So far, they've opened 7 store fronts with plans for 45 by end of the year and 100 by next year. They brought on Song+ DM-i into Brazil. Will start delivery in December.
- BYD opened up its first Belgian store in Brussels on the 6th

I call this a bully. If I were China, I would have demanded Audi to change its S6, S7... to something else before selling in China.

I blame NIO, there are so many letters and numbers why choose something similar to your competitor? IF you want to stand out you have to establish your own brand.
