People will pay butt load of money for a Lexus 470, which is a Land Crusier under the skin, no one wants to pay that kind of money for a Toyota.

Its still Land Cruiser or Prado in many countries. Lexus only in the US and the two warring ex-USSR states. Even in Japan, its still the Land Cruiser Prado. Being a Lexus means the vehicle is full of sound deadening and top trim features, along with an expensive and big V8 engine. The Land Cruiser Prado only comes with 4 or 6 cylinder engines, mostly from 2.7 liter to 4.0 liter, either 4 cylinder, straight six, V6 and diesel 4 cylinders. In paper the Prado should cost much less than the GX470, but car taxes in the US are much lower than in other countries.

Then you come down below it and you have the Fortuner, Hi-Lux and Innova, which are all ladder in frame vehicles and powered with the Toyota TR series gas engines, or some diesel. The Fortuner is what you are seeing as Toyota's main SUV in most markets other than the US, and its pickup counter part is the Hi-Lux. Popular in places like in Latin America, South East Asia, and not the least, Australia and New Zealand.



You have to consider that the cheapest Hi-Lux is only about $15,000 in US dollars in the Philippines, or around P843,000 philippine Pesos; I am going to check on prices for other markets as well. Cheapest base trim Tacoma in the US is about $26,000 over, but I usually see Tacomas around $30,000 to $40,000 when listed.

Here is the problem for Audi, it's just talking about building a new EV factory in China of 150k cars. That is tiny. This would not even make the news if it were BYD.

I spotted this on Chinese social media over the weekend. This is where BYD is investing in.

This one is a bit of lie. I don't think there is a way for even BYD to get to 300k per month by August. They are probably expecting 300k pre-orders per month by August. And, they are definitely hitting 700k in pre-orders.

Those Corrolla, Camry, highlander are mostly globalized products while Landcruiser is Japan export. thats why there is now 5 to 10 years wait for Land Cruiser despite not selling it North America, Europa, Russia now.
The word is moving towards shortages in parts and shortage in skill labor. its too much risk to drive around in car like Tesla unless there are multiple like in taxi fleet.

They are using Tesla since 2017 in rental fleet. this exactly it supposed to work.

I owned an LX 470 for 20 years, which was a Lexus badged Landcruiser (1998 version 5th generation). Landcruiser is a unique model in the Toyota lineup. It is widely considered an over-engineered body-on-frame SUV, which is a true SUV platform instead of uni-body quarsi-SUV. Since the 4th generation Landcruiser, this brand was recognized as the best SUV in the world, surpassing Range Rover and G-wagen. This is the only city-legal Toyota car with a 10-year design cycle.

When I bought my LX470, Landcruiser was still available in the US Toyota dealers. It was just a few years ago that Toyota no longer sells Landcruiser through Toyota dealers, only LX570/LX600 through Lexus dealers. But to me as a Landcruiser fan, they are the same cars with different dressing-up.

Landcruiser is indispensable as a true body-on-frame off-road SUV, which is widely used in military use cases world wide. It will be one of the last vehicle types that will be replaced by an EV equivalent. Its reliability in the wildness and its reputation is not easily replaced by any other vehicle manufacturers.

There are two sayings in the car world:
(1) "It is a Porsche." That means a Porsche is a revered sports-car brand even it is considered a piece of crap.
(2) "It is a Landcruiser". That means a Landcruiser is synonymous to SUV.

Vast majority of "SUVs" people buy or talk about on the Internet are not SUVs. They are actually uni-body city-class people movers.

Actually there are loads of ladder frame real SUVs. Most are crossovers and now the new micro SUVs which are just hatchbacks with about 50mm more ground clearance.

Ladder frame has its weaknesses and drawbacks too. It is also actually not necessarily more expensive for the manufacturer. In fact oftentimes cheaper than monocoque.

Finally, BYD Han today hit 2 years on the market. It has sold over 260k during this time. It is anticipated that they will sell another 350k over the next year. Han has been a huge step forward for BYD.
