correct me if i'm wrong, but external gun is not the same as turretless. external gun means the operators are inside the vehicle as opposed to the gun turret. you still need a turret if you want your gun to rotate. turretless would be something like the German StuG from WWII. A turretless configuration seems to be a very bad design to use for MBT.
