and during 2009 military parade, among equipment seen in the parade was troposcatter relay equipment ,liscense from ukraine .
but to date picture PLA radio communication equipment for platoon level not yet been seen.
modern infantry radio feature encoding chip and frequency hopping, aside secure voice communication,it can also download video, and data ,much like internet.

Well I think militaries usually try to keep the most sophisticated communications equipment under wraps. Back in my army days we were strictly forbidden to photograph installed communications equipment (though dismantled they didn't care).

The modern systems you are referring I'd say is still quite cutting-edge. There is nothing like that distributed on platoon-level in any regular branch in the Norwegian Armed Forces at least (as a wealthy NATO member, I assume Norway has access to the technology) as far as I know.

I think we can safely ignored what posters like Challenge had said. To them China still exist in the cavemen era with absolutely no real capability... and link their claim to some dubious links like the wforum.

Can anyonw put this pic into context? Like when and where was this photo taken. It's definitely mid-90s, but what sort exercise is actually taking place?

I don't see the use of morse code as being backward. Plus if the enemy were able to so how intercept your communications. I would think Chinese words in morse code would add an extra layer of difficulty in deciphering espicially if the listener is not a native speaker.

Actually...how does that work anyway? How is the transitiion from chinese characters to morse? (As morse code is based on the English alphabet)

furor in India, after indian air force using huawei encyrption chip.
(beware of virus)
back in early 90's UK firm's racal marketing offer to upgrade ex-warsaw pact radio equipemnt by incorporate company design encryption chip into existing soviet design radio equipment.
China could choose similiar path, which is cheaper than buying complte new equipment.
