Re: Chinese miliary radio and communciation equipment.

Actually...how does that work anyway? How is the transitiion from chinese characters to morse? (As morse code is based on the English alphabet)

There are more than one method, one of those is 中文電碼 (chinese telegram)

You can download "中文電碼" from here :

0002 丁
0003 七
0004 丈
0005 三

8926 矬
8928 矽
8931 阶
8932 砣
8933 队
8935 砝

I don't think is harder to decrypt. You can just use a computer listener to hear and trascript chinese characters.

I'm not entirely sure on how it works. But if you've ever looked at a English to Chinese or English to Japanese dictionaries there pronoun-cations written in English to pronoun words in the other language.

In WW2 the Japanese used morse code and US intelligence read many intercepts especially when they read the one when the Japanese fleet was order to attack Midway.

They could also be using a system like the police where situations and orders are just a series of numbers and only those with the code books can understand.

They maybe equipped by the navy special forces, but still worth notice I think. By what I remembered, the left is radio comm, right is SATCOM suite.

Can anyonw put this pic into context? Like when and where was this photo taken. It's definitely mid-90s, but what sort exercise is actually taking place?

I don't see the use of morse code as being backward. Plus if the enemy were able to so how intercept your communications. I would think Chinese words in morse code would add an extra layer of difficulty in deciphering espicially if the listener is not a native speaker.

Those are propaganda units, broadcast something like" American GIs, your government sent you to die, they do not care for you" in Chinglish, hoping some one on the other side will listen and lay down their weapons.

Lol, looks to me they are just shouting a single syllable command.

Anyway, that's a very old photo. Judging by the colour tone, it's probably from decades ago when colour film was first newly invented. Not relevant at all for the present.
