Re: new Chinese supertank,question....

Well, China right now doesn't really have a capability to transport MBTs by air, except for a few Type-96s in the Il-76s they currently have (I don't know if they could handle the ZTZ-96G, though).

But the new transport plane could possibly take on the new Type 99 mod.

Re: new Chinese supertank,question....

For something like a Type 99A2, it would need at least a Il-76MF with PS-90 Turbofans or an An-124 for effective air-deployment.

Re: new Chinese supertank,question....

I was thinking of the new heavy transport plane that AVIC I is working on (the one which looks like the C-17).

Just making an observation on types of transports necessary for ZTZ-99 airlift, but the AVIC heavy transport should be able to carry it without a problem.

Re: new 120mm guided mortal round

I analysed and translated the article in October last year.It is in early stages of research and devlopment and if developed will be rocket assisted. The CEP is given as two to three metres with the bomb weighing between 17 to 20 kilograms. The designator can be six kilometres from the target being lased. The lethal radius is given as 20 metres which is low for a 120mm mortar – the Model 63 60mm mortar bomb having a quoted lethal radius of 18.4 metres. The quoted maximum range is given as 13kilometres.:coffee:

Re: new 120mm guided mortal round

The small lethal area is probably due to the fact that this round is designed as a anti-tank & anti-structures (buildings) weapon, with massive perforation and less fragmentation. Would be a waste to use such an expensive ordonance against simple infantry in the open!
