As of today, Thursday, January 7, 2015, Star War: The Force Awakens, became the highest grossing US domestic movie of all time with a gross income now of $764,408,684.

It did this in just 20 days after release, passing Avatar, which had $760.5 million, which took over a year to reach it and was spread out over two separate releases.

Star Wars VII will just keep breaking domestic record each week now...in fact, each day. It will top $800 million this coming weekend and some believe it may reach $1 billion domestically.

But the question now is how much can it bring in internationally? It opens in China this weekend and will probably do well there...but how well?

Avatar is still the highest selling world-wide movie of all time. It earned well over 70% of its $2.7 billion dollars earnings internationally.

Star Wars VII right now is earning about $51.5% of its sales internationally, and although China's gross will increase that, but unless it really earns a LOT more internationally, while it may well break Titanic's $2.186 billion total, it is unlikely at this point to catch up with Avatar's global gross.

I saw the movie again yesterday. For me, it held up surprisingly well.

Force Awakens in China made $33 million on its opening day. Second highest day after Fast and the Furious 7. China is tricky figuring out what it'll make total in the end. FF7 made over $50 million on its first day and ended up making around $370 million total, the second highest box office. Monster Hunt on it's opening day made over $27 million but eventually ended up with the top box office crown in China.

Looks like it won't do Avatar's international number then.

I went to Phantom Force with my niece during our stopover in Akld on our way back from Europe where we enjoyed a White Xmas.

We took advantage of the stopover and paid $35 each for Gold class tickets and watched the “The Force Awakens” in style. However comparing gross takings with blockbusters of previous years is rather meaningless if one considers the rise of ticket prices

For me, “Star Wars” died with the prequels so I wasn’t expecting a hang of lot from this latest film. In fact, I didn’t particularly enjoy the movie and upon reflection over hyped. Overtime, think reviews of the movie will follow the same patterns as those for the prequels. Good at first, and becoming more critical with the passage of time.

As pointed out by other posters the film was full of anomalies. Such as the time it took to acquire Jedi skills. I also feel the lack of character development as well as the “Star Killer” getting destroyed rather easily disappointing.

I found linking back to previous scenarios irksome and IMO caused fluidity issues in the movie. I would give the movie 5 as a standalone movie and even less as a continuation of the original trilogy.

I wouldn’t bother seeing the film again. I might buy a DVD of it when it reaches the bargain basement pricing and end up semi watching it when it's being played in the background.

Maybe you're just getting to be a tight-wad like the old AFB, I spent 5 bucks at the Matinee, and passed on the 3d version, I'm prolly a lot happier than you on that basis alone. I also saw it with my wife, who surprisingly to me, really liked it, my granddaughter and grandson really enjoyed it and that helped, my Son in Law and Daughter also enjoyed it, and it was the first movie we had seen together.

Was I disappointed, yes, but mostly because it has a very PC, Disney aire about it, and to be honest we all know Disney has become very preachy, while dissing our traditional values, I just do not like that type of indoctrination from somebody whose pure motive is profit. I actually really enjoyed 1st movie with Anakin and loved the pod races and that big silver ship, I did not like him having to leave his mother, and hated the dark tone where he eventually becomes Vader, I think Lucas could have developed the evil dark lord without all the Hate and self Loathing.

In the latest movie, there's really no ominous feelings of fear and dread as there was in 4V, and Ren is just not up to the bad guy role, killing his own Dad, was just stupid, although some may relate to those feelings? I just didn't connect with the characters, some of you did, and I'm very happy that you did, I know I'm a very picky customer, about everything.

I tend to think this is a sign that there is hope for humanity! At the risk of sounding like a broken record I think the real reason why The Ridiculous Six did so well is because too much entertainment today is too serious. Life is serious enough already, I seriously need to be entertained by something absolutely frivolous. Crime shows everywhere, emotional rollercoasters galore when it comes to movies, practically always dramas that get recognition, The Martian winning the Golden Globe for Best Comedy? Drama's space explorers have taken over planet Comedy! Seriously!!! And as far as learning life lessons from entertainment goes, I am pretty sure I learned just as much from comedies as from dramas if not more.

Well, according to the estimates for the two day weekend in China, The force Awakens did $53 million...which is a decent two day total. If it has had three days, it may have gotten up to $80 or even $90 million. But it did not, and was never forecasted to come close to anything like what Fast and Furious 7 or The Age of Ultron did in China.

Still, Force Awakens did over $100 million internationally this last weekend, and 41 million in the US in its fourth weekend, which any way you cut it is a phenomenal haul..

Now it is officially the number three highest grossing movie of all time.

Will it overtake Titanic for number two? I think there is a good chance it will.

Will it overtake Avatar at 2.7 billion world-wide for number one? Nope, not a chance it will do that.

Avatar was a perfect storm internationally when it came out. It was released twice that year and was in the box office for over eight months. With the new 3D, it was just, as I say, a perfect storm that led it to over $2billion dollars internationally.

The Force Awakens may approach $1 billion in the US, and it will go over $1 billion internationally...but at this point, it will never get close to the $2 billion internationally it would need to beat out Avatar.

I saw The Ridiculous Six too. I liked it a lot. The only thing was that Adam Sandler was too serious and almost too dull. He didn't smile, didn't even talk too much. Almost all the laughs came from his co-stars. It almost looks like he was trying to step back and stand behind his buddies and let them shine. Anyway, I liked it.

I too agree that TV shows and movies have become a little too serious.

I also believe that we are seeing a golden age of TV now. They are putting out some awesome TV shows with ingenious plots, good characters and good acting. My favorite is still "24". To this day, nothing has come close it, IMHO. If I have to use one word to describe it, it would be intense. "Blacklist" is also an awesome show. We are starting "Blindspot". It's looking good so far and has definitely grabbed our attention. I am addicted to "Arrow" and "Flash" on CW too. "Gotham" is also nice. Just finished binge-watching "Burnt Notice" a couple weeks ago. I loved it. The combination of comedy, action and suspense is nice. Supernatural is getting crazier and almost wacky by the episode, but in a good way.
