Well, as I expected, Star Wars VII is going to be overhauling Avatar as the largest domestic US grossing movie in history this week.

Right now, Star Wars has 750 million, and Avatar 760 million. Tsar Wars is still doing 7-8 million per day, so by Thursday it will have taken that first place.

World-wide it has a ways to go yet.

Currently, Star wars VII is at $1.54 Billion world-wide and Avatar is at 2.7 Billion...so that will take a while. But Avatar has gotten to that number in over six years and Star War VII is still in its first month. it has the fastest growth of any movie in history overall.

And, it opens in China on January 9th and I expect it is going to get a good haul out of China this weekend and thereafter.

So, we shall see.

Anyone thinks that Avatar 2 can beat both it's old record and the new Star Wars?

In China, maybe, but I think the novelty (3D) is no longer there. I don't even think that a sequel is necessary.

But this is James Cameron we are talking about here. Who knows. I'll keep an open mind.

I think it helped a lot that Disney basically invited every movie critic from TV, print, and even fan boy sites on the web to the premiere. They literally walked the red carpet with the stars of the movie and celebrities that were invited. And to top that they were all also invited to the after party where good food was served and they can again mix and mingle with the stars and celebrities. And the result was they got a 95% Rotten Tomato rating.

I have the same complaint for the new Star Wars as I have for the latest James Bond movies, they take themselves too seriously. In the case of Star Wars there is a difference between earnest and serious, they need more of the former and less of the latter. I think the filmmakers are aware of the problem as they try to insert some humor, however how the humorous moments are worked into the movie are too blatant, too cheeky and unnatural. In the meantime BB-8 has nowhere near the charm of the C3PO and R2D2 pairing, it also makes me think that Disney means for this movie to appeal to children younger than the PG-13 rating.

* SPOILER ALERT? *

Kylo Ren looks like a young Snape from Harry Potter, come on!

I cannot imagine it doing so. The new 3-D thing really propelled it...and it has gotten to its number over a 6+ year period.

Star Wars VII is not done setting records, so it is hard for me to imagine an Avatar sequel doing as well.

But...heck, I will go and see it! LOL!

By the time the Avatar sequels come out, China will estimated to be the largest box office in the world. China is a little over half of the size of the US right now. By then domestic China for Avatar 2 could beat domestic US for Force Awakens. Force Awakens has taken it deepest dive in its third week compared to the previous week. Force Awakens/Star Wars is an unknown in China but probably not going to beat Fast and the Furious 7 nor the number one biggest in China, Monster Hunt. Beating Avatar depends on what numbers are correct for worldwide totals. I've seen between $2.2 to 2.9 billion for Avatar's total. By the time Avatar 2 comes Episode 8 will have come out and who knows how much money that will make.

Yep...oit's all sepcultion at this point.

But with a $7+ million dollar Tuesday, putting Force Awakens at $758,198,252, it will surpass Avatar for the all time largest grossing domestic US film today.

Avatar has $760,507,625. so a little over $2 million, which Force Awakens will easily do today, and it becomes the new leader.

comedy was “so lazy and aimless, it barely qualifies as parody.”

But according to Netflix, the slapstick Western is hardly a joke.

During their CES keynote on Wednesday, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and chief content officer Ted Sarandos offered some insight into the company’s movie business as well as the eye-popping performance of Sandler’s new film.

Since debuting exclusively on Netflix, “The Ridiculous Six” has been seen more times in 30 days than any other movie in Netflix history.

“It’s also enjoyed a spot at #1 in every territory we operate in, and in many of them it’s still #1,” Sarandos added.

Some outlets erroneously reported on Wednesday that “Ridiculous Six” was the most-watched Netflix title in history. A source later clarified: it’s the most streams ever in 30 days of release.

Still, an impressive feat for Sandler and Netflix. In 2014, the duo signed a ground-breaking deal that called for four original movies, beginning with “The Ridiculous Six.”

“Adam believes his audience is mostly at home and he’s probably right,” Sarandos said in a

with Variety.

Produced by Happy Madison, “The Ridiculous Six” is a spoof of the Western “The Magnificent Seven” and features several of Sandler’s recurring co-stars including Will Forte, Steve Buscemi, Terry Crews and Rob Schneider.

The movie set off a wave of controversy last year after

because of offensive jokes in the script.

“The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous,” said a Netflix spokesperson. “It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of — but in on — the joke.”

As of today, Thursday, January 7, 2015, Star War: The Force Awakens, became the highest grossing US domestic movie of all time with a gross income now of $764,408,684.

It did this in just 20 days after release, passing Avatar, which had $760.5 million, which took over a year to reach it and was spread out over two separate releases.

Star Wars VII will just keep breaking domestic record each week now...in fact, each day. It will top $800 million this coming weekend and some believe it may reach $1 billion domestically.

But the question now is how much can it bring in internationally? It opens in China this weekend and will probably do well there...but how well?

Avatar is still the highest selling world-wide movie of all time. It earned well over 70% of its $2.7 billion dollars earnings internationally.

Star Wars VII right now is earning about $51.5% of its sales internationally, and although China's gross will increase that, but unless it really earns a LOT more internationally, while it may well break Titanic's $2.186 billion total, it is unlikely at this point to catch up with Avatar's global gross.
