I wasnt allowed in to see District9 after purchasing the tickets. I had my youngest with me and he was under 16 so we saw GI Joe, what a load of rubbish.

I saw District 9 last night too. For 30 million dollars to make, the best little big movie in a long time. Peter Jackson really went against convention in producing this movie. It supports the notion that Hollywood is just an exclusive club where members scratch each others back and give each other bloated undeserving salaries which is why their movies cost so much to make.
The studios didn't want director Neill Blomkamp to direct Halo because it was going to be his first. They would've never allowed Neill Blomkamp to hire his high school friend to play the leading role of Wikus Van De Merwe because he wasn't a big known pretty star. BTW I saw the guy at Comic Con and he completely does not come across like the pencil-pushing dweeb he is in the movie. Would Hollywood dare to give him some recognition?

That District 9 actor's performance was Oscar level.

I totally agree with you that Hollywood produces a lot of overpriced over CG crap nowadays.

GI Joe was perhaps the most expensive crappiest movie I have ever seen. It was made for $175 million.

I saw District 9 on Friday night. Totally loved it. The theater was packed too.

There are, of course, a few holes here and there. However, the performance of the lead actor was quite solid. The movie itself was very immersive and it was hard for the audience not to empathize with the protagonist. Above all, the issues the movie tries to explore are quite profound.

A solid 8.7 out of 10 from da Panzerkom. :D

Expensive? I thought District 9 was made for ~$30 million?

My mistake I was referring to GI JOE.

I actually missed the first 10-15mins of District 9 did they ever explain why the aliens came all that way just to live in a dump. I actually thought the movie was quiet good certainly different to whats been around.though Id agree with the earlier poster who said logic in the storyline appeared flawed.

What you saw in the movie was the ship was crippled the the crew dying. When humans came on board they were apparently aided. At Comic Con Neill Blomkamp explained that the Queen died and the crew, who are all basically drones, was lost there after. They did not mention this fact in the movie only slightly suggesting that their society possibly had a "queen" social structure. Interesting to see how they still had children.

Yes, the movie didn't specifically say that they had a queen and the queen died, but it was implied/mentioned that the aliens follow orders, and the humans couldn't find a leader among them.

What was the thing that fell down from the mothership in the beginning of the movie? (the thing that humans thought would be some sort of energy storage or propulsion system but was never found on the ground) Was it the shuttle?
