Just came back from Comic Con 2009. Was looking forward to see James Cameron's Avatar preview but if anyone has been reading the news on the event, there was a huge negative reaction to Twilight: New Moon fans who ruined the day for nearly everyone who was there to watch it. The Comic Con handlers apparently stupidly decided at the last minute to place the New Moon panel right before Avatar. So the whole day the main event hall was locked with New Moon fans and virtually no one else could get in to watch the Avatar preview. Never heard of Twilight before last year's Comic Con where I happened to witness thousands of little girls screaming louder than a 747 jet engine just for the cast's name tags being place on the table before they came out.
District 9 seems to be interesting. If you like Japanese anime future tech look, i.e. Robotech, this seems to be the first live action movie influence by it. It's about an alien race who settle on Earth and after many years of paranoia humans take action against them and a revolt ensues. Produced by Peter Jackson.
I saw Trick or Treat a horror movie due to be released in October on DVD. Not sure why it's going direct to DVD and not released in a theater. It has some Oscar caliber actors in it. Maybe because they'll get a larger share of profits instead of the studio distributing it. It's described as the Pulp Fiction of horror movies. Pretty good the way they filmed it. Not your average horror movie.
Saw a preview of Iron Man 2. Pretty Awesome. War Machine in action.
Solomon Kane based off of some books(?). Looks interesting. Stars James Purefoy who played Mark Antony on HBO's Rome TV series. Sort of Western/dark fantasy sword and sorcery.
Jonah Hex is a movie in the same vein but more Western. But has the Angelina Jolie of this generation Megan Fox who was there to wow the audience.
Roland Emmerich was there to promote 2012. Again with the repetitive theme of his movies... disasters that you can barely out run. Great special effects is about the only you can say was good. A person in the audience asked him what his favorite movie he directed. He basically named all of his movies. I don't know if it was ego or he doesn't have a clue. I wonder if it says something that none of his actors were there to support his movie.

Also the director of District 9 was set to direct the Halo movie produced by Peter Jackson. Peter Jackson said it was the studios' fault, not Bungie or Microsoft, that the movie will probably will never be made anytime soon. District 9 was a result of this. So you can see a tie-in on subject matter. Probably a stab in the eye at the studio for what could've been if it's successful.
