CAn you elaborate on that please, thanks

The news you don't hear about China and the movie entertainment industry is that regardless of piracy, the movie theater business is growing in China with no signs of stopping. The first Tranformers movie made around $50 million (USD) in China. The sequel has already made nearly $22 million. The years ahead could potentially see China having bigger box office on average than in the US. Because of piracy and the limited number of foreign movies Beijing only allows to be shown in China every year, Hollywood threatened not too long ago to abandon China and go to India instead as if that was a threat that Beijing will regret. Great miscalculation because it only plays into Beijings hands. Beijing wouldn't be limiting the number of movies if it placed a high value on Hollywood in the first place. So word is Hollywood has been turning to creating direct associations with Chinese filmmakers in order to get them to lobby Beijing to the least increase the number of foreign movies allowed to be shown in China. $14 dollars for a movie ticket in China is on par with the US. The box office potential is huge and quite clear Hollywood can't ignore. So threatening to take their ball and go to India was empty and meaningless to Beijing.

$14 bucks!? Here in Iowa if they charged that much for a movie no one would go. Movies cost half that much here. The people here are very frugal..Matinees are still $4 or $5 dollars and many theaters run "Dollar Days" in the middle of the week.

I agree with you that the Hollywood types tried to run a bluff on China and it did not work. The people of the PRC have much more money to spend on leisure/entertainment than in India. Much more. And money is always the bottom line.

Hmm...why is macdonald's and movie so expensive in China? I'm sure it's multiple times cheaper in other developing Asian countries.

But do those $1 days and 4-5dollars apply to new releases, or movies that are a bit on the cheesey side?

Does anyone Like suspense or horror movies. I still reckon Jack Nicholson in the 'Shinning' as one of the better ones to come out in the last three decades.

I paid $14 for watching Transformers 2 on IMAX. Los Angeles and New York cost more. I think $14 is the average price adult ticket there. Not to mention how much they charge for parking. Matinees in my area cost about $7.50 these days.

Stephen King hated Kubrick's movie. I saw the TV mini-series endorsed by King and I have to say the Kubrick version was scarier.

Most of Kings books don't translate well into movies. I think Christine, Carrie were'nt too bad, and Duel was that a Steven King Book was pretty good for a low budget effort.

I enjoyed the book 'IT' but they didn't do a very good job with the movie version.

I reckon modern suspense films such as Friday 13th, and Freddy Kruger are poor immitations of suspense.
