But do those $1 days and 4-5dollars apply to new releases, or movies that are a bit on the cheesey side?

Yep..most but not all. For instance Transformers is not included at the theater we go to.

I paid $14 for watching Transformers 2 on IMAX. Los Angeles and New York cost more. I think $14 is the average price adult ticket there. Not to mention how much they charge for parking. Matinees in my area cost about $7.50 these days.

Here in Houston, the average price for a movie ticket is about $8. And almost all movie theaters located outside of the 610 loop have free parking. :p

Most of Kings books don't translate well into movies. I think Christine, Carrie were'nt too bad, and Duel was that a Steven King Book was pretty good for a low budget effort.

I enjoyed the book 'IT' but they didn't do a very good job with the movie version.

I reckon modern suspense films such as Friday 13th, and Freddy Kruger are poor immitations of suspense.

I agree completely. I am a big fan of Stephen King books, but most of the movies based on his books are at most like those old B-movies.

I don't see movies like "friday the 13th" as a suspense movie. A few good suspense movies that I like: Sixth Sense, Others and Saw. "Others" is less known but very good in my opinion. If you haven't seen it, GO SEE IT. It's so good that it gave me a chill when I watched it. Not many movies can do that any more.

BTW, have you heard of the new HBO miniseries "pacific", which is the follow-up of the "Band of brothers". It's scheduled for 2010. The trailor looks awesome.

Did you ever go and see 'Blair Witch'. I thought it was overated and strange, along with those DVD ones about watching a tape and something happening to you. I never got them out, but seeing bits and pieces of one on late nite TV , reminded me about them.

Yeah, I fell asleep while watching it in the theater. I never understand what's the big deal about it. People say they were sooo scared when watching it. I say they should get out more.

$14 bucks!? Here in Iowa if they charged that much for a movie no one would go. Movies cost half that much here. The people here are very frugal..Matinees are still $4 or $5 dollars and many theaters run "Dollar Days" in the middle of the week.

I agree with you that the Hollywood types tried to run a bluff on China and it did not work. The people of the PRC have much more money to spend on leisure/entertainment than in India. Much more. And money is always the bottom line.

In Japan, the price of a movie ticket might be around twenty plus region dollars.

Never been to the pics in Japan, but when I visit my son over there we usually visit bars that charge,$20 each for all the beer you can drink in 2hrs.

Anyone saw the movie "Bruno"?

I'm a huge Sacha Baron Cohen fan, but man the "Celebrity Show" scene was hard to watch. Anyone who can finish that scene without turning their head has my full respect. :D

'Transformers 2' becomes biggest-ever China hit

By Min Lee, Associated Press
HONG KONG — The Transformers sequel has become China's biggest box office hit ever by earning 400 million Chinese yuan ($59 million), a publicist for the country's leading state-run film company said Friday.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen surpassed the 11-year-old record of 360 million yuan set by Titanic, spokesman Weng Li at the China Film Group, one of the country's two film importers, told The Associated Press. Titanic made about $43 million based on exchange rates in 1998, the year it was released.

Weng said the Transformers sequel, released June 24, received a wide release on several thousand screens. China had about 4,100 screens by the end of 2008. The first Transformers installment raked in 280 million yuan in 2007.

"This is a tremendous achievement for the market in China and clearly shows that there is a strong growing demand for international films," said Mike Ellis, Asia-Pacific managing director of the Hollywood trade organization, Motion Picture Association of America.

The group wants China to relax its movie import quota of allowing in just 20 foreign blockbusters a year, aimed at boosting its domestic industry.

Weng said both installments of John Woo's two-part Chinese historical epic Red Cliff earned 300 million yuan ($44 million) this year and last, as did Chinese director Feng Xiaogang's 2008 romantic comedy If You Are the One.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, a science fiction movie, was apparently slightly censored. In the film's opening sequence, the Autobots and Decepticons battle in an industrial part of Shanghai, but when a U.S. military commander refers to the city, the word Shanghai is muffled.

Chinese censors are sensitive to portrayals of their country in foreign movies.

The Transformers record also highlights the earning potential of Hollywood films in China. But with piracy a lingering problem and moviegoing largely the habit of wealthier urbanites, the growing Chinese box office revenues remain small compared to the U.S.

The Transformers sequel earned $62 million on its opening day in the U.S. alone. The $200 million production has grossed $348 million in the U.S. and $380 million outside the country, according to the box office tracking website Box Office Mojo.

Chinese box office revenues totaled 4.3 billion yuan ($630 million) in 2008, compared to $9.8 billion in the U.S. in the same year.
