I saw it too. It was ok... average with some funny parts (but then again, which movie doesn't these days). I actually like the german guy much more than the allies.

Yes he came across as a person who was really trying to do his job, nothing personal, while Brad Pitt and his mob were a bunch of Psychos.

I went to a senior citizens session, and there were a considerable number of people old enough to have served as occupational soilders there, boy from their mutterings they thought it was rubbish. I think they must have thought it was resistance fighters version of 'Band of Brothers' or Saving Private Ryan.

I quite liked Basterds, it was classic Tarantino, a sort of rambling series of vignettes with interesting characters, and you don't know why but its very interesting. I thought it was really well acted. But hey I'm a Tarantino fan so whatever.

While the acting was top class, I would call it a sort of art film, which isnt my thing, bring on a 'rooty tooty war movie in the likes of the 'Dirty Dozen' with the likes like the late Telly Sevalas is more my liking:)

I just saw the trailer of Avatar. It's amazing. I can't wait to see the whole movie...

BTW, what do you guys think of "2012". I thought it looks amazing, but all the CGI looks a little exhausting.

Your son works for Weta? I am a BIG fan of The Lord of the Rings books AND movies. Can you get me some souvenirs? (caution, he might lose his job for stealing company properties..:D:D:D)

"2012" is a new movie about the Apocalypse that supposedly will happen in the year 2012. This, supposedly, has been "prophesied" by the ancient cultures all over the world. The movie was directed by the same director (I forget his name) who made many famous disaster movies, including "Independence Day". The only thing I can say after watching the trailer is that the special effects are amazing. You'll see the entire planet Earth goes crazy, Noah's ark type of flooding, earth splitting into grand canyon-sized holes, etc. Something worth watching on the big screen.

.

Unless Im mistaken, I think they had a clear out sometime ago.

My son told me sometime ago that WETA had associated and sister companies such as"Park Rd"and another one that does the sound. He works for "Weta Digital", that does the animation etc on contract to other studios whereas all the props and things that go into the films and TV shows like Zena and Hercules lord of the Rings, which I asume is what you are talking about are created at "Weta Workshop" and he has nothing to do with them.

The 2012 movie visually looks interesting, as for the ancient Mayan prophecy about the world being destroyed, that's a crock. The Mayans prophesized that in around 2012 their would be a cultural awakening, not complete annihilation ala Roland Emerich. It's mostly due to a bad translation by a french archaeologist, but might be a good popcorn for some.

Yep, another thing is that they found that the Mayan calender, which is a cycle, ended on 2012. So they concluded that Mayans must've thought the whole world's ending in that year, therefore no need to continue the calender. One thing they did not consider is that the calender-making could be ended by some man-made or natural disaster. It's amazing how easy it is to get people to believe something like this. Like all the urban legends and myths, such as aliens, UFO, etc, the scarier you make it, the more likely people will believe it.

Last night, I was watching History channel where they had "UFO Hunters" on all night long. At the end, I had to switch channels because some of those so-called ufologists are simply nut-cases. They can link anything and everything to aliens. "Anything we can't explain has to be done by the aliens..." "How could our ancestors be smart enough to build pyramids? It had be the aliens..." "why else the military installations around the country don't want us to know what they are doing? they are working with aliens...? No, I'm not kidding here. This is exactly what some of the hosts are saying on the show with a straight face. They spent a quarter of the show "testing" the security of one of the military facilities in Utah. Of course, they found it was very tight. And the conclusion they got? The US govn't must be working with aliens as if the nation has nothing else to hide but aliens.... Man, talking about subjective and illogical thinking... To me, the show gets a little better this season since they brought in a mechanical engineer who actually does something strange called "logical thinking", which must be a shocking revelation to many of the "ufologists". To me, this guy is the ONLY sane voice on that show and the only thing that keeps me watching it.
