There's probably no sequel for Pacific Rim since the movie only made $39 million opening weekend which means its total North American box office when all is said and done will be around $120 million. The movie cost around $200 million to make and that's not including promotional costs which has to be well over $100 million. The only thing that might save it is huge overseas box office.

After Friday, the 20th, Pacific RIM sat as follows after 8 days:

Domestic : $68,235,000
Foreign: $110,300,000

That's $178,535,000 in eight days. It will probably go over $200,000,000 after Saturday and Sunday worldwide on a $190,000,000 budget, and that will be after just 10 days.

I expect world-wide the movie will end up making over $400,000,000 after DVD/Blue Ray in total sales. This means it will make a profit of well over $100,000,000 after costs and promotion. If it does, I expect we will see a sequel, and will look forward to it.

What bugs me about that line is that it only holds significance for those familiar with the rest of Superman and the comic history. Without that context, the next movie could just go in with batman and superman having this rivalry, fighting, having batman win, then saying that line.

At which point, anyone only familiar with the two movies will be asking, "Wait, what? So? Superman's beaten just one guy so far anyway, that general dude. So the second guy he fights, batman, beats him. So what? That's just 1 for 1, big deal, lolz."

That was kind of my problem with Man of Steel as well. It spent so much time showing hundreds, possibly thousands dying, at two ends of the planet while Superman goes off and saves Louis Lane who's conveniently everywhere at all times. Okay, so Superman had a lot on his plate, but there's no scene where Superman even acknowledges or laments those other losses. Then at the end, Superman is crying and shouting about 4 other people in the train station that Zod tries to kill directly. What? Is this the same Superman that just bashed Zod through a skyscraper, some buildings, and blows up a 7-11, all in straight line, without even considering that there might be other people in those places, just because he was angry at Zod?

Don't get me wrong, I give these issues a pass because I think they're trying to establish that this is why Superman later tries his hardest to avoid casualties and is repulsed at killing. I just think that the recent crop of films can rely a little too much on prior knowledge for really critical plot points or story elements. Same with "Into Darkness" and Khan, etc.

That said, overall, I am still looking forward to the next Superman and Star Trek films. :) .

Yeah I chuckled when Superman was telling everyone on the street to stay inside only to have moments later A-10s come in and obliterate every building on the street.

I've read there was a discussion between Nolan and Snyder over Superman killing Zod. Nolan was against it. But it sounded like what Snyder wanted to do is build up to a reason why Superman doesn't kill which would probably happen in the sequel. I guess to modernize Superman he wanted to depart from the goody-goody boy scout image that killing is just wrong and give him a reason why he won't kill. But the thing is Man of Steel is tracking worse than Bryan Singer's Superman Returns in the box office. My bet is the reason why they're doing Superman vs. Batman is because of Man of Steel's poor performance. So plans have probably changed.

You have to remember overseas box office Hollywood only gets about a third of it. DVD/Blu-ray sales which use to make over half of Hollywood's profits have plummeted in recent years. That's why you see Hollywood dependent on overseas box office and co-production investment.

One of the main reasons I want Pacific Rim to succeed is that Del Toro might be able to convince the studio to green light At the Mountain of Madness if he makes a lot of money.

Bruce Lee

40 years ago (20 July 1973) Bruce Lee died. I love (still do) his movies and just bought a new Blu Ray "Enter The Dragon Blu Ray" - 40th Anniversary Edition | Remastered.

My favourite his movies rank :
1. Enter The Dragon
2. The Way of the Dragon
3. The Big Boss
4. Game of Death
5. Fist of Fury

Remember there wasn't any computer trick at that time

A lot of people believe he's the best martial artist ever lived .. what do you guys think ?

Interesting comment from Sugar Ray Leonard

But the thing is Man of Steel is tracking worse than Bryan Singer's Superman Returns in the box office.
What? Right now Man of Steel stands as follows:

Domestic: $285,021,000
Foreign: $350,000,000

That's a total of $635,021,000. That's by far the largest Superman gross ever. And that's after five weeks.

Superman Returns, which was released in 2006, has the following numbers to date:

Domestic: $200,000,000
Foreign: $191,000,000

Or, $391,000,000.

Man of Steel is by far the best selling Superman Movie made, domestic and foreign...and that's again, after only five weeks.

You have to remember overseas box office Hollywood only gets about a third of it. DVD/Blu-ray sales which use to make over half of Hollywood's profits have plummeted in recent years. That's why you see Hollywood dependent on overseas box office and co-production investment.
The fact is, the total gross adds to the bottom line, Domestic Sales, Foreign Sales, and the Blue Ray/DVD/Digital downloads. In the end, I predict Pacific Rim will gross $400,000,000 on a $190,000,000 budget. If they do, it is almost a sure thing that there will be a sequel.

If they do not make a significant profit, then of course, they will not.

Yes I know about the totals but I just heard it on a radio show over the weekend that talks movies where by some figure Man of Steel was not doing as well as Superman Returns. That's Hollywood. Do you know what movies have been the most profitable for Hollywood? Wayans brothers movies. They cost cheap and make huge profits despite they don't do blockbuster box office. Think about this... If a Wayans brothers movie cost $10 million to make and makes $80 million in the box office, on the face of it the studio made $70 million. If Pacific Rim breaks even, it made nothing. Profits are a larger mountain to climb with a bigger budget movie. They could make twenty Wayans brothers movies with what it cost to make Pacific Rim. So it can be a whole lot of factors why Man of Steel is not tracking well. Like I said they don't include promotional costs and they don't release those numbers but it's said it can be equal to the amount of how much the movie cost. Also they track by how many go to see the movie because ticket prices go up. Plenty of examples where a sequel makes a lot of money but factor in ticket prices going up less people actually went to watch than the one before. Also they don't release how many investors were involved that they have splits profits and also distribution is a big money as well. Executive Producer Jon Peters owns the rights to Superman being made into a movie. You know how much involvement he had in producing the movie? Aside giving the okay to make Man of Steel... zero. You know how much they had to pay him for his okay? $30 million.

Wolverine is an OUSTANDING movie! If you like X-men, and particularly if you like the Wolverine...see this! And stick around for the after-credit trailer too! The next one promises to be very outstanding too with a lot of really big surprises based on that trailer.
