Depends on your point of view. I read someone jokingly report that during the battle of Hong Kong the Chinese were killed first something like 1:29 mins into the battle. They should've gave the role of Mako to either two actresses in The Wolverine. I've read a couple of reviews say she was the weakest point of the movie.

Sad to say but even as a joke that's what happened. The entire Hong Kong fight was basically just to get the other robots out of the way, and set up the Level 5 monsters, so the Gypsy Danger and Striker Eureka could have a more tense battle at the end of the movie. The Chinese, and Russian robots each get their obligatory 2 hits in and they're destroyed.

The irony is Del Toro isn't a fan of 3D and didn't film this movie in 3D. It wasn't until afterwards it was converted to 3D because they wanted to increase the chances of it being shown in China. It performed big in China but they destroy the Chinese Jaeger first. In the US and Australia, Pacific Rim performed poorly and their Jaegers lasted until the end. Interesting to see what they will do next since the success in China for the movie has cracked opened the door for the sequel.

They might suck up the same way Iron man 3 did, but this is largely dependent on what Del Toro wants.

Maybe nothing since the Chinese are shelling out the big bucks for this film anyway, without caring that the hero bot is "western".

I know I was disappointed that the Chinese and Russian bots were cannon fodder not so much because they were Chinese or Russian, but rather because we were teased about their prowess for the most of the film, only to have them cut down so quickly.

That said, I know it's natural for an audience of a nation to want to see stuff related to their nation in a good light, so maybe in the next film we'll get a four armed Chinese super bot and a Russian robot that doesn't play to the stereotype of being "less advanced but rock solid" like the Chero Alpha.

Yes, even with Hollywood more dependent on the foreign box office, they still are going to be reluctant to give anyone else more prominence even if it means more money. I was seeing some YouTube footage of Transformers 4 being filmed in Detroit. Apparently they're using Detroit to be Hong Kong or some other Chinese city. But all the Autobot vehicles are still American or European. Yet some of the civilian vehicles on the street seem to be ones you'll find in Asia.

I just rented a good submarine movie called Phantom. Good action and good mystery aligning with the technology theory that goes with it. The actor Ed Harris plays a sub commander under the strict secrecy by the KGB rogue OSNAZ group trying to start a nuclear war between China and the US, therefore making the Soviet Union the soul super power left in the world. IF you like cold war scenarios and want to see how older Soviet SSBN works go see this film.

I just noticed this Lone Survivor movie on IMDb which seems to be based on a real story:

The trailer looks very intriguing so hopefully this will be better than another similar movie

Does anyone else have any well-made post WW2 movie to share?

From a military standpoint 2 things bugged me. First off the Jaegers in my guess would be upwards of 1000 tons most likely more. There is no way 6 or 7 helicopters would've been able to lift it. At the minimum it would take at least 50 Chinooks to lift it.
I took some time and put some thought into this the heaviest seen Jeager was Cherno Alpha at 2412 tons.
Ch47 can lift a max of 14 tons reliably that is a fleet of 173 chinooks. The world heaviest production helicopter is the MI26 halo a 22 ton lifter built in Russia. that would demand 109 Halos. now the most powerful lifter ever built was the Russian Also MIl v12 which lifted 33 tones. V12 used the engines and rotors of 2 Mi8 hips rigged on outriggers it would a have demanded 73 homers to move that beast.
Now we never got a true closeup of the sky cranes moving these robots. A While back Boeing contemplated a as part of the Army's then active Joint Theater lift program a super Chinook called the Advanced Tandem Rotor helicopter now assuming that those are a farther development of that assuming that it's equipped with unrated engines around the same power as the 2 × Lotarev D-136 turboshafts in the Mi26 maybe around 50 tons? that would be 48. still a lot but assume they are not going to any real altitude and maybe maybe would could drop that number more but still it's more then a lot of reality being stretched.
