Movies in General

I felt it was one of the few movies of recent times that came across quite well in 3D, however some parts of the storyline reminded me of 'Independence Day'

After seeing that movie, who still wants to be a FighterJock. Me wants to be a Yeager Pilot... Oh yeah.

From a military standpoint 2 things bugged me. First off the Jaegers in my guess would be upwards of 1000 tons most likely more. There is no way 6 or 7 helicopters would've been able to lift it. At the minimum it would take at least 50 Chinooks to lift it.

Another are the fighters basically strafing and engaging the Kaijus with their guns. Some even fly underneath or over them only to be smashed into pieces. Any pilot worth his salt would not be doing that. I mean you have a giant 10 story tall monster swinging away wildly and what do you do? OK let's fly underneath his arms and legs and just for kicks.

Other than that it' a great movie!!!

Why not shoot the darn thing with BVR missiles?

A GREAT action flick, with a lot of very good special effects and technology and monsters (Kaiju) that was adapted in part from earlier Japanese anime. These were not the pristine control rooms or tech that so many movies show. There were tough, very well used pieces of technology with some great mind meld thrown in there.

OKAY - SPOILER ALERT FROM HERE ON!

Great comic relief too, particularly later with the two eccentric scientists.

Loved the one scene where the Mod 3 Jaeger is thrown through the building and stops just touching, and activating the balance balls in the one office. LOL!

Acting wasn't the greatest, particularly from the new Japanese actress...but it was good enough, and the other more well known stars did fine. Storyline was interesting and led you through the movie, but it was not the principle thing. I did like the way they folded in the controlling aliens from the other dimensions into it so the monsters were not just mindless things.

It was like a modern, very well done, realistic Godzilla and King-Kong movie, with Godzilla being the Kaiju, and Kong-Kong being the Jaeger Mechs humanity had created.

Anyhow, if it does well and they make a sequel, I will surely go see it. Also, will buy this for my iPad, and will probably see it one or two more times with other family and friends.

I saw Pacific Rim last night my self. Loved it well on the subject of Giant robots.

Now lets handle some comments

!!!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!!!

@Mace it was on screen When Mori met Pencaust He was piloting it.

@kwaigonegin Did you note the fighters on screen were F22's and they looked to be firing dual cannons!? What is it with Hollywood giving fighters Dual cannons to fighters when just about all now are single gunners.

@Equation
Only reason I can think of that they did not Fire BVR missiles is that they had. They fired their whole war loud and the monster just laughed at it.

Overall I liked it. I had my own Tech issues though. I mean Why put fingers on a Giant Robot? Your never going find a piano big enough to be play chopsticks on, and where are the Head cannons! I liked Crimson Typhoon with it's asymmetric configuration as a weapons system that makes sense.
Why was Gypsy Danger unaffected by the EMP? Really the thing should have been as down as Striker Eureka. I mean Why was Gypsy shielded and Striker not?
Also Why put the Cockpit in the head it's the part of the body that gets moved the most and targeted the most? The "head" of a Robot should only be a place to put sensors like the Turret of a Helicopter. And it seemed like early on there was somekind of gold fluid in the helmet in Jaeger pilots but it later seemed to vanish what was up with that? never answered.

Anyway This Shows potential for the coming Godzilla movie.

hahaha yes definitely noticed the 2 guns. Also like I said in my previous post the F-22 pilots must either be drunk or worst pilots in the world for trying to fly under/over the Kaijus and strafe.

Talking about weapons I wonder why they don't use their plasma cannons at a distance and the sword earlier in the fight. Why bother dragging a ship and used as a club when you have a super duper sword?

either way it was very entertaining and I enjoyed the film.

Now that I think about it Avengers and Live free or Die hard did the samething to the F35B.

Seemed like the plasma cannon was a no no for some reason. the boss had a vain on the side of his head ready to burst when they powered that baby up the first round. Dramatic licence is all I can come up with for both. Although lets be honest Who wouldn't bash a Giant monster over the head with a container ship if they could?

Com'on, let's face it. The scene where they use the ship as a club to swing at the big bad monster was the one that got me. Impressive! It gives you some perspective...

I saw the Pacific Rim today and I LOVED it! The movie was better than I thought it was. I believe Gypsy Danger was nuclear powered using steam turbine generator instead of digital with the mother boards that gets fried like the others.

Superman will fight Batman in 2015!

"I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you."
:p:p:p

What bugs me about that line is that it only holds significance for those familiar with the rest of Superman and the comic history. Without that context, the next movie could just go in with batman and superman having this rivalry, fighting, having batman win, then saying that line.

At which point, anyone only familiar with the two movies will be asking, "Wait, what? So? Superman's beaten just one guy so far anyway, that general dude. So the second guy he fights, batman, beats him. So what? That's just 1 for 1, big deal, lolz."

That was kind of my problem with Man of Steel as well. It spent so much time showing hundreds, possibly thousands dying, at two ends of the planet while Superman goes off and saves Louis Lane who's conveniently everywhere at all times. Okay, so Superman had a lot on his plate, but there's no scene where Superman even acknowledges or laments those other losses. Then at the end, Superman is crying and shouting about 4 other people in the train station that Zod tries to kill directly. What? Is this the same Superman that just bashed Zod through a skyscraper, some buildings, and blows up a 7-11, all in straight line, without even considering that there might be other people in those places, just because he was angry at Zod?

Don't get me wrong, I give these issues a pass because I think they're trying to establish that this is why Superman later tries his hardest to avoid casualties and is repulsed at killing. I just think that the recent crop of films can rely a little too much on prior knowledge for really critical plot points or story elements. Same with "Into Darkness" and Khan, etc.

That said, overall, I am still looking forward to the next Superman and Star Trek films. :) .
