More Virginia's coming online soon, Minnesota (April 2013), North Dakota (Late 2013-erly 2014), and John Warner (late 2014-early 2015) are all under construction.
Hehehe...but if any of them catch it, it'll be a while before we see it anyway.
I want to see it on the board here. LOL!
IMHO, we outght to have 60 SSNs, and we should build 24 of the most advanced AIP SS vessels in the world for the littorals.
I count 55: 43 LA class. 3 Seawolfs, and now 9 Virginia's. California was commissioned in Oct 2011 and Mississippi was delivered to the US Navy on May 2nd (though commissioning will be a few weeks away).

Though considering how rarely we see a carrier (or...even a capital warship) in a submarine's scopes, it would be fun to see nontheless...sub warfare hasn't seen any good major league-action since WW2...

During WWII 2 Japanese carriers and Shinano were sunk by USN submarines, in return 2 USN carriers USS Yorktown and USS Wasp were sunk by Japanese submarines
I doubt in today's era this kind of feat can be repeated

Why? I will say today era even has a higher probability. Today's torpedo are guided and they can go 4 in one go. Plus modern sub are very stealthy

You are right, but I think the USS Yorktown was first struck by Japanese dive bombers and torpedo carriers before finally finished off by the Japanese submarine when she was already dead in the water.

True, but the torpedo is still slow in comparison to cruise missiles and Anti-ship missiles.

Yeah, now I can imagine why guys on a carrier don't like subs. Its hard to hide a carrier, and hard to find a sub!
