I myself may have mixed feelings about this, but at the same time its been the norm in China for decades and to be expected of the government system it has. In short, it sucks but its not surprising and in the end for some things like talking politics in public either seriously or satirically, rules are rules.Whether he's well known or not in China, cancelling him on Weibo is just bad PR. Definitely not the way to build soft power lol. The Chinese authority needs to grow some skin.
He's now milking it on YouTube with the latest video about being cancelled and the comments are all one-sided pro Roger.
If anything, the bigger topic of discussion amongst the Chinese public was the punishment of that comedy troupe last week who made fun of the PLA. An action which seemed to get popular support here, but its a military forum so such sentiment is to be expected compared to Uncle Roger, which I guess resonates more with the SD's users since he's a famous diaspora comedian, despite being the equivalent of Ken Jeong.
