I’m sure Tim Cook, being a smart guy, is not bringing iPhone production to India because of some idealistic belief in democracy. There are concrete actions by Apple and Foxconn to move production outside of China. I don't care about Josh Hawley, or what Foxconn say. There is a general effort by some of the big Western firms to move production out of China into other 'democracies'. Whether it will be successful or not. That is why I wrote all those things for.
Listening to the Western media, it makes perfect sense for the some of the big Western firms to transfer production from China to India. And I do see some tangible actions, although it is still early stages. Eventually something will happen, and we have to prepare to accept that. But we should not be too upset, because it is not necessarily a negative thing for China.
At some point, India should reach a level of development at least on par with where China is now. As you said, it can be a good thing for China, developing a market for industrial goods.
Western companies are not stupid, many more have already left, rather than come in. The media’s stories are one thing, but companies deal with the reality. The labour pool is big, but undertrained, who is paying for this? That is why they want those subsidies. Then when the rug is pulled up from under them, they just cut and run. However, that doesn’t stop companies from wanting to be to India, what Apple is to China (including Apple itself).
