If the underlying causes are not fundamentally dismantled then it could certainly happen again. It's only been 80 years since the end of WWII, a lot can change in another 80. The northern nomads didn't invade China every century, but some semblance of permanence of peace has only been achieve with the assimilation of the cultures during the Qing dynasty. Now it's been relative peace for some 200 years, with no end in sight. Are the Japanese trying to colonize China again?
China offers the Third World an opportunity for fair dialogue, but some Third World countries simply want an equal dialogue. If anyone feels that not engaging in equal dialogue is bullying, then China can only wish them well in their pursuit of what they consider equality!Reading some of these comments has been an eye opener. Whenever I hear people from other Asian countries complain about China I never understood it, I honestly just thought they were jealous or mental because I never had issues with Chinese in real life. These jingoists among them are unbearable though and for China's sake they shouldn't ascend to leadership positions, if they think they can just do anything they want to they're in for a very rude awakening. The world isn't going to swap one bully for another.
Developing countries do have choice on who to work with. Only the arrogant think otherwise. Is China unwilling to engage in candid communication, or are some people deliberately blocking their ears and refusing to listen?
It's ridiculous that some developing countries still think they can choose who to cooperate with.
To put it bluntly, a beggar is being picky about his food!
China has never forced anyone to cooperate with it. Thank you for your evaluation of China's integrity. Then I would like to know who the arrogant person you are talking about is?Developing countries do have choice on who to work with. Only the arrogant think otherwise.

The truth is that Africans don't give a crap about "equality" per se, just dignity. You're allowed to do business (even if it's unfair and we know it's unfair) but as long as you treat folks with dignity, transact and leave then it's all good. Nobody wants someone else interfering in their internal affairs. The problem with these so called great powers is that they grow and get arrogant and start to believe the world revolves around them, after which they collapse and start blaming everybody but themselves. If the Qing rulers weren't so dismissive of the Brits and handled things with a bit more poise (never mind who was right or wrong) then they wouldn't have angered them and gotten their ass kicked sparking a century of humiliation. Moral of the story: no matter how powerful you think you are, the world doesn't revolve around you. If the Chinese, the Americans or whoever are so mighty they're free to stop doing business with the global south and develop on their own. North Korea is a guide. Africans are the only people that can transition to basic living fairly quickly.China offers the Third World an opportunity for fair dialogue, but some Third World countries simply want an equal dialogue. A featherweight boxer always fantasizes about competing against heavyweights, while constantly complaining that their opponent's fists are too big and unfair. This is the morbid problem of African countries: they want equality but cannot face reality, never striving for their own growth, only wanting giants to crouch down and converse with them.
It would if it had the chance
I recall something about Qianlong and British being some westoid narrative said in this forum. So I found another post for your info:The truth is that Africans don't give a crap about "equality" per se, just dignity. Not really. The Qing in the half century before the First Opium War was extremely concerned about the British threat. The court and the Emperors themselves commented that the British had occupied India, and Malacca and Macao during the Napoleonic Wars, and they feared the British military and aggressiveness immensely, see Waley-Cohen, Joanna, The Sextants of Beijing: Global Currents in Chinese History. (W. W. Norton 2000), 104, 126, 129–131, 136–137. According to Qing court records at the time, the main reason why the Qing refused the Macartney Embassy's demands was because they feared a permanent British trade post and embassy will lead to some kind of trick of British colonization. Henrietta Harrison, The Qianlong Emperor’s Letter to George III and the Early-Twentieth-Century Origins of Ideas about Traditional China’s Foreign Relations, The American Historical Review 122, No. 3 (June 2017) 680–70. The real reason why the Qing naval defences were left to decay was because their funds were diverted to fighting the White Lotus and Eight Trigrams rebellions, despite knowing about the external threat. Ronald Po, The Blue Frontier: Maritime Vision and Power in the Qing Empire (Cambridge University Press, 2018), 79-80. The modern American blindness to their rivals' capabilities is unparalled.
Nobody is talking about "force" here, I'm certainly not. I said developing countries have a choice on who they work with (ie: conduct business with). Nobody has to do business with anybody. Who are the countries that just approved certification for COMAC jets? All developing countries like Indonesia, Myanmar, Nigeria, etc. They don't have to but they do for various reasons, I know Nigeria is close to approving certification due to lobbying from the Chinese, it doesn't have to but it does. These countries will help COMAC earn revenue that it will be re-invested in expansion, R&D, etc. After which you'll get folks arrogantly looking down on others.China has never forced anyone to cooperate with it.
