The Trumpian Art of the Deal is basically gunboat diplomacy.
Looking forward to PLA bases and Chinese settlements in Italy, along with other nations of the Unequal Treaties.Actually its been China's MO for multiple millennia to annex the territories of barbarian tribes who inavded China, because China never forgives.
100 years might seem like a long time for water barbarians, it's not a long time for China, and as the Chinese saying goes, a gentleman will always take revenge even if takes 10 years, or a century for a nation.
You’re overstating the anti Americanism under Biden because it wasn’t there. Australian elite attitudes has often been like slavish wannabe Europeans, they just dislike trump as an outsider challenging their usual masters in Washington. There are elite factions that support trump as in Canada.Forget the conservative media and idiots on X. You'll see in comments on most media pieces and everyday conversation that overwhelmingly Australians are aware of the hypocrisy.
There's a really strong undercurrent of anti-Americanism in Australia that's been subsumed during the Obama/Biden times but it's absolutely EXPLODING again during the reign of Trump 2.0. It's difficult to convey how much damage he's done.
I do think this is a misstep by the Chinese. A few days ago, the tenor of the national conversation was ready for a huge flip in attitudes around China and the US but that seems unlikely now. It's played into the fears of older, politically important segments of the electorate and will probably just weld us even closer to the US.
This is no misstep, this is a natural evolution of Chinese power which necessarily must remind Australia that white supremacy is a failed religion and only Chinese assimilation is required for their continued survival.
