Talk about taking things out of context. The "innovation" mentionned there is mainly about inventing "new" morals (basically what the US is doing with their LGBTQ+ nonsense).I think this hadith sums up what you need to know well enough:
This strike you as a STEM-developing mentality?
I already wrote about how Islam heavily encourages science and learning. But as @manqiangrexue said, modern Muslims (especially arabs) either misunderstand (out of sheer ignorance) or simply don't follow their religions' teachings, and instead spend most of their time praying, thinking that's all they need to reach heaven (lol). So it's ultimately on them.
I've heard some conspiracy theories about how the current state of affairs is a plot from the west (something about the rise of wahabi ideology from the family of Wahab, a close ally of Saud), but I think it's just loser talk (regardless of if true or not).
Look at the Afghans, soon after emerging from a 20 year war, they repaired a large portion of the military equipement "deactivated" by the US, developed a rudimentary sports car (from scrap metal !) and are already close to finishing their first megaproject: a 270 km long artificial river that aims to solve their drought and famine problems in the north.
Religion has nothing to do with the current plight of muslim arabs. Winners win and losers lose.
