Binance CEO steps down; crypto platform hit with record $4.3 billion in damages​

The Treasury Department said Binance “willfully failed to report” more than 100,000 suspicious transactions from a host of sanctioned groups and countries, including Hamas and North Korea.

The CEO of Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, will step down after the company pleaded guilty Tuesday to violations of the Bank Secrecy Act, an anti-money laundering law, among other charges.

The company will pay more than $4.3 billion to settle the charges, the largest penalty in the history of the Treasury Department.

In prepared remarks, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Binance was guilty of “consistent and egregious violations of U.S. anti-money laundering and sanctions laws.”

If that's the case then there's no point in BRICS, we already have the UN. Thanks, but no thanks. France joining will be a slap in the face for Africans who still have to deal with neocolonial France. If China allows this then I'll lose faith in China as a serious leader of the multipolar order. The US would remain the preeminent force for the foreseeable future.

In my country they don't, in fact they are the largest land holders and major investor in oligarch company, so they were joint at the hip. I don't know the social context in other former Spanish colonies but the symptoms are the same, a legacy of Spanish rule.

The Spanish rule ended centuries ago, in fact. American rule is the present.

If your country is still failing, the responsibility lies with its current leaders and the people who elect them, after all, it is officially a democracy that follows the American doctrine of a presidential liberal democracy, not a long-forgotten Spanish medieval monarchy.
