That is the problem: They believe.

These humanities graduates in D.C. have a vision of reality probably more grounded in 70s and 80s cold war fantasy novels than in the real complexity of the modern world.

Iraq was supposed to be a few months war and ended up being the biggest foreign policy disaster ever with consequences that will last decades.

Maybe if they started to hiring leading people as young and inexperienced as Joshua Wong, you can start to worry but given that China does have the ability to self reflect and does have systems in place to oust those who do not look out for Chinese interest, we shouldn’t worry that much on that part. Besides, if one should worry, they should worry about how on earth the USA could seriously consider a Cold War style war with China when the only reason they won is because the USA had a manufacturing base and they had China aligned with the west rather then Russia, both of which is not possible now. It’s like the old saying (or is it), ‘call an ambulance but NOT FOR ME’.
